Good finds. It's all tempting but I got to stay with the 20r for some time. I dont pain on losing hope in it unless things go totally wrong and I go insane trying to fix it.

Getting a first bit of snow here near the Puget sound. Not sticking to the roads yet. Even with its little problems it not hard to start. I had to give it the choke but it didn't have to crank forever. There has only been one other day I had to choke it.

I posted that information just to give someone an idea of cost involved with that type of build and the extra items that will come up later as one discovers that a full gasket kit, did not include the Half Moon Gaskets. Show stopper since finding replacements for just that small item can limit the completion of that build.

That plus the seller never shows the face of that head so that you an see if the valves and surround area is ok or not,

Its definitely up there in price. I already have it in my mind when it fails I can get a complete 20r for a few hundred. I probably would of been better off buying another one along time ago. Just about everyone I see forsale has a Weber already.

Yeah for $300.00 more than that engine price you could buy this. Dessert Car 68,000 miles on the Odometer.

Damn this makes me want to go back and have my truck weighed again. Did a dump run too over a year ago and the scale read 2250 with no one in the truck

That's a good bit lighter then mine. You can drop 150 for me. Not sure how much the head weighs and cant be bothered to do so right now. I think I have no more the 30 pounds of other stuff in the truck. I'm probably still over 2500.

Do you still have the drum brakes up front?

I actually weighed the parts when i swapped to discs up front, if i remember right the drum setup weighed 20lbs more than the disc setup per side

That's kind of unbelievable because alot of the time drums weight less.

Hmm, my truck still has the 18RC. I wonder if that does anything for the scales??

Need to hit the dump. Some will let you roll through just to weigh your vehicle.

Could be. The 18R is real heavy lump. I bought a 240Z (from estate of a friend who passed away) with plans of replacing the L24 six pot with an 18RG. I thought it would be lighter, have better weight distribution, and be only a little bit down on power. Plus, I'm more a Toyota guy than a Nissan guy and I need a pre-1976 chassis (smog check reasons) to put the 18RG in. Then I found out 18RGs weigh almost as much as the L24! So, never mind.

Given that the 18RC has its roots as a heavy duty fork lift engine and has a cast iron head (IIRC), I can see why it could weigh a lot more than a 20R.

That eBay 18RG only had one bidder and it sold for the starting bid of $1000.00. I just looked to see when and how much it sold for. The pistons from TRD made by Wiseco, was worth almost $600.00 or more so there you go on old JDM pricing...

Yeah... I soooo much wanted to bid on it but I just don't have time or space to build an engine. I believe the seller posts on Japanese Nostalgic Car website where he said he crashed his Celica. It's too bad he couldn't build the engine because Toysport asks $4k for refurbed RGs...

I have given advice to KFD when he use to visit Classic Celica and 1stgencelica.com, even though he owned a 2nd Gen.

I had followed his post prior to him departing Japan with that engine. The amount of funds that he had spent to get it right was beyond a normal budget and He did purchase parts from Toysport to get it back running. Wow, Sad!

Started noticing I bit of a rough idle in the last couple days. Brake booster is going out. Was waiting on the boss to roll by and I pop the hood and do some checks. Thought it was burning a good bit of oil and threw a little in after my last run. Checking the level was first. It was over some. Seemed odd because I thought it read really low. For what I threw in I didnt expect to fill much. But I always had a hard time reading that dip stick. Then I notice only on one of the primary tubes on cylinder 4 the paint started to burn off. After seeing where the booster hose is hooked up its definitely the reason why its hotter just in the one. I did start noticing a bit of a screech after that run. Almost like the accessories but not. It was after it got warm at idle. Sounded like from the rear as well. Started it up and for the first time after all the work it didnt stay idling at first. Probably just the oil being high. I remember that being a problem before.

After talking to the boss going the route for buying another motor to build. Im letting this one go till it fails or I'm done building the motor. Going to get that brake booster done to keep it from going lean. Not trying to make it totally melt.

Well doing some searching today this intake came up. Had to jump on it. Probably going to do an efi build with it. I would love to do the duel Webers but this will be a different build then every other one. Never thought I would own one of these guys. 20200123_163423.jpg
