Like most engine swaps that are placed into different car chassis, people worry on not just reliability and performance but how well the car can produce a fair amount of gas mileage. I recently made a trip to Seans this weekend (2jzswapper) to do some R&D on the site and decided to drive the 2jz truck. Being that the truck is pumping out near to 400hp with a t67 turbo, I tought I would record the gas mileage to see what its capable of. The trip was a 4 hour drive calculating a whopping 255.90 miles from door to door. Ok guys hold your breath, I got 34.12 miles per gallon! Not a typo! I only used 7.5 gallons on this trip. So who needs a Prius when you can have a 2jz?
Depending on if you've done anything to your truck, more like around 285 more hp.... The 22RE only does around 116 hp, not sure what the 22R does. I get around 25-26 city, not sure on highway.
Well the truck is about 1,000 pounds lighter plus the high gearing. Im cruising the speed limit on the freeway at 2,000pms. Its like idling Much better then the 22r engines. the head it literally half of the engine. Its huge! Hehe, yes sir. We just need to do yours now Thanks for all the comments guys! This is with no tune and half of my injectors are weak. I couldn't believe it either. I didnt hit boost one time the entire way and could still pass cars under vaccuum. torque is amazing
anyone think this swap could be done to a 4x4? Probably could give my grandfather's Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo a run for its money!
Yes it can. they bolt right up with the exception of with either the adapter between the tranmission and the bellhousing or adapter between the bellhousing and the transmission. I was looking into the 1uz more closely today and the R and W series transmissions have such a common and similiar bolt pattern that making different engine choices are cake. Last 2jz I seen swapped in a 4x4 toyota pickup was by Rory at Idaho Speed in Boise, Idaho. it was done very nicely and had working 4wd.
That truck is BADASS!!!! I've seen it in person. They had a short video of it on youtube but I can't find it.
Did they close down? I noticed they no longer have a website. I wonder what happened to those guys. They have the video on streetfire.net as well.
I heard they just went to a smaller shop. Not sure where, though. Now that I think about it....I don't see their stickers on cars anymore. Just looked in the phonebook. They're still listed, have address and phone number.
