My truck recently developed this problem..I haven't done anything to it that I would have made an error..just started it up one day and sounded like a damn diesel After it comes up to temp it stops immediately..The noise seems to be coming from the top of the cylinder head or in front of the engine..Can't make it out..I was thinking fan clutch but not sure
sure does...but like i said the noise goes away when it reaches operating temp and it goes away instantly not gradually..Sounds perfect once it warms up
Timing chain guide might be going out. don't drive until you get to pull the valve cover and get a chance to look at the driver's side timing chain
can't be that i have a brand new top end on it with the new metal guides...and i remember that sound before i changed it...it never went away even when the truck warmed up...it seems like when the thermostat opens it goes away
efi,i have a new oil pump, water pump, complete timing kit with timing cover and i use Valvoline 10w-30..valves were adjusted about 15k ago which was the second adjustment after the initial when I re did the whole top end..Injectors were also reconditioned at the same time
i would say its the cold start injector or some other "cold running" wire or sensor. if it just started all of a sudden, i would look for something that disconnected itself.
looks like it might be piston slap...i'm going to do a compression test but I found a brand new snap on compression tester on CL cheap, its for motorcycles but does anyone know if this will work on automotive?
might be detanating if you say it stops once it get warmed up id check the distributor ive not messed with the 2.2.re to much but sounds like its cold starting doing its warm up thing then when you get it up to temp it stops could just be one of the vacum swithces controling advance on the distirbutor id look into that as far as which one um youd have to get someone else on that cause i love toyota and all but there vacum diagrams are scary to say the least and worse if someones half assed them back together i had a old subaru wagon do that and ended up thats what it was with it took me 4 months and a subby guru to figure that one out but as soon as we changed it never happend again up until its dying day on the other end of the dam state lol
