My truck recently developed this problem..I haven't done anything to it that I would have made an error..just started it up one day and sounded like a damn diesel:confused: After it comes up to temp it stops immediately..The noise seems to be coming from the top of the cylinder head or in front of the engine..Can't make it out..I was thinking fan clutch but not sure

sure does...but like i said the noise goes away when it reaches operating temp and it goes away instantly not gradually..Sounds perfect once it warms up

Timing chain guide might be going out.

don't drive until you get to pull the valve cover and get a chance to look at the driver's side timing chain

can't be that i have a brand new top end on it with the new metal guides...and i remember that sound before i changed it...it never went away even when the truck warmed up...it seems like when the thermostat opens it goes away

i would say its the cold start injector or some other "cold running" wire or sensor.

if it just started all of a sudden, i would look for something that disconnected itself.
