Got a 20r shorty header, for my 1995 22re. The header dosnt seam to have a holes for the air injection system that i dont want anyways. Im getting exhaust gaskets for the 22re, but do i need a air injection block off plate to delete the air injection system with this type of header? Thank you!
Not sure the 20R header will work on the 22RE. I believe the ports are different designs. I know the intakes are different.
If the flange on the header does not have holes for the air injection manifold, then you do not need to get block off plates. 20r and 22r EXHAUST port spacing should be the same. Toyota changed the air injection ports but the flange should cover both designs. BUT.. There are two bolt patterns for exhaust manifolds. 20r and early 22r use seven bolts while later 22r use eight bolts. Newer headers made for the 22r usually have NINE holes (three holes between 2nd and 3rd exhaust ports) to be backward compatible for all 20r/early 22r/late 22r. Older headers made for 20r/early 22r will not work on later 22r. Unfortunately, I do not know when Toyota changed the manifolds but 95 is definitely the 8 bolt pattern. If you go to lce performance's website, you can see the differences in the header flanges in their pics. You can also see that they sell a shorty header that fits the 20r/22r/22re.
Ok great info! The header i have has holes in every outside corner of the flange, and 3 in between the portholes in the lower flange. Its deffinetly missing 2 that the lce has that are centered ontop between the exhaust ports
Curious, 2 or 4 wheel drive? 2 wheel drive would benefit from long tubes and the shorty would be better for a 4X4.
Its a 2wd early 1995, im sure its not "ideal" but its better then the current cracked manifold and broken y-pipe haha
The late stock pieces are designed as a "tri-y" and that really works well with the 22R/E engine. Stock bits are restrictive, but they do work well with the stock engine. If you want to really bring that set-up to life a cam with @215 +/- duration at .050" lift with as much lift as you can get. I've run the Schneider 250/260F with shortys with good results, and WEB Camshafts 94a was a grunter as well. Not much to do with the 22RE if you keep the stock ECU and engine, just cam and exhaust.
