Hey fellas. I just completed a rebuild on my 76 20R. It's having some running issues. List of modifications as follows: 210 duration .420 lift camshaft; Pertronix Ignitor 2 and Flamethrower 2 coil; Weber 32/36. I ran the carb and ignition setup on the truck before the rebuild with no drivability issues. I then removed the engine to rebuild and it all sat for 2 months. I did not turn the carb upside down. Now, after the rebuild the truck ran well and pulled strong, still does most of the time. No lack of power. However, at cruise and intermittently at idle the motor is cutting out, running rough and sluggish to response. So far I've checked all the ignition components and their grounds, except for the Pertronix unit. No problems with that so far, although the timing light is showing misfires on the coil and all cylinders when it starts cutting out. We drove the truck with a fuel gauge, the fuel gauge shows a steady 2 psi. The fuel pump also pumps enough fuel in 30 seconds to fill a 16oz bottle. vacuum looks good. It holds a constant vacuum when it isn't misfiring. Sometimes the motor is fully responsive and sometimes it lags, when it lagged last we tried hitting the throttle and pouring fuel down the primary at the same time with no result. This seems like an electrical issue. The fuel pump does not seem to slow or change in fuel delivery rate or speed, and all grounds and spark plugs look good on the ignition side, as does the ignition switch in the cab on the column. Tomorrow I'm having the Pertronix unit tested to see if it is malfunctioning. I'm afraid if I don't get this figured out I'll have to pay a shop to scope it. Any ideas or input is helpful and appreciated.
Welp, I swiped the ignition system off a buddy's 84 and hotwired the coil. The truck ran perfectly fine. It's obviously the pertronix unit.
