    Welcome to DMT!

Insane I like it alot! I wish we still had them (I am yet to see one in Aus)

With Pic's.... Instead of using url as the code to post the link just directly change it to img to get the picture.

    Eg:

Rat Rod... Please No! If you had to do anything... Keep the paint, drop it a little (2-4inch) and shorten the height of the head board (massive vertical board) to match the bottom bar using the very top rail.

Something simmilar to this but using what you already have. You could even put a brake light right in the middle for something extra... That's what I'd do.

i don't know a lot about the 5r. my guess for lowering the truck would be lowering springs/blocks. does it have torsion bars?

Its got coil springs in the front end, the front people say you can run mighty max springs which will drop it like 2 inches. The back standard lowering blocks will fit it, so again just pick up 2 inch blocks.

My advice for parts is RockAuto Auto Parts
They still had stuff for my 73 and its basically the same front end on the Stouts.

i have a 1976 and a 1962, i can answer most near all of your questions but first i will say that on facebook there is a small group that might be of help
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/58645012372/
there is not much that can be done to lower the front of a RK101 as the front leaf springs already overload on rough roads hitting the brackets that hold the sway bar in place. the round tank with the hoses is a purge tank or coal canister that prevents fuel vapor from the fuel tank venting directly into the atmosphere. the 5R engine had three horse power ratings pending what carby it has and what it was fitted in so a mid 80's 87hp a mid 90's 96-97hp and 106-107hp most of the stouts were the mid range version to optimize torque.
the large hose off the coal/purge tank joins on the very bottom of the air cleaner housing and needs to be fitted as part of the emission system.

the large hose off the coal/purge tank that joins on the very bottom of the air cleaner housing...
if this was not connected would it prevent fuel from getting to engine
and is it necessary to have
if fuel filter was extremely old would this to prevent fuel from getting through

it seem car chugs away for a minute if i spray some carbie cleaner down it , but stops once evaporated
notice fuel float level is not filling up

any solutions or things to check before i start pulling stuff to pieces

    thanks

in australia we had both forms of the stout, what you refer to as a stout in the US we call a lite stout. the first stouts in australia were RK45 which had a 1,750kg payload 1961-62 on 700 15 inch tires leaf springs all round, then came the lite version RK40 6.50 13 inch tires 1,000kg payload in late 1962 with front coils which had the same R engine as RK45 and there were very limited amounts of both.
the RK41 7.50 14 inch tires 450kg payload started October 1963 and was for the US only and so was never sold in australia, what was sold here were RK43 2R engine 6.50 13 inch tires 1000kg payload 1965-1973? lite stout with front coils and RK100 3R engine 700 15 inch tires 1750kg payload 1963-1967 replaced by the RK101 5R engine same tires and payload 1968-1978 or termed full stouts with leaf springs all round.
so coils are only on light stout marked only in the US as the L on RK41-L.

the large hose on the bottom of the air filter is the fuel tank breather and only allows air in and out of the fuel tank operated via vacuum from the carby.

now on the later versions of carby 1970's models are anti dieseling solenoids that stop fuel passing through the idle jets, this is connected via a ignition active and if it is not connected it will not idle nor will it run real well either.
if it has any form of water in the fuel system this in time creates a substance that blocks things up real nice and if the carby has a blocked jet apart from the electric cut off idle jet my little trick is to remove the air filter setup from the top of the carby including the bolt that holds it in place, start the engine get it to rev up and block all air being able to be sucked through using your hand as a choke to stop all air flow. this trick can create so often enough vacuum on the jets to suck through any junk that could be blocking them, sometimes i repeat this a few times. another place that can block apart from the fuel filter is another small mesh filter in the brass fitting where the fuel line joins the carby.

otherwise i am posting a full engine manual for both 3R and 5R engines on the facebook toyota toyopet stout group.
i find posting photos on forums not as easy as it is on facebook and the facebook group is just for stouts and has bits and people from all over the world with owners of stouts from early as my 1962 to some of the last made in the 1990's, if you are not on facebook i will book mark this and do my best to help you

    edit
a post on torc that might help
TORC Forums - Picture History ao The Stout?
