Hello fellow Hilux drivers. I just got a 1972 with the 18RC and asian carb. She runs and idles beautifully, but once I shut her off all the gas from the carburetor bowl floods into the intake. I have completely rebuilt the carb with a new kit, and replaced the float. I obviously have the float adjusments and idle adjustments correct because the bowl does not overfill at any time, and the fuel level stays right at the "bubble" while she purrs. I am just hoping someone else has experienced this problem and may know what I need to do to fix it. I would be very grateful for anyone's input, as long as your advise doesn't include replacing either the engine or carb, as I cannot afford to do that right now. I would also like to know if maybe someone has one of the old original carbs they might sell cheap. Thanks in advance for any help!

Does this carb have the fuel cut solenoid ? So after its parked it begins to overflow possibly residual pressure in between the pump pressurized side and the the carb slowly rising until it over flows does it constantly do it while sitting or does it stop eventually . Check evap gas canister make sure it can vent built up gas vapor

Hi, thanks for answering. No it doesn't have the fuel cut solenoid, and it floods until all the gas is gone from the bowl everytime I shut her down. The evap canister and all of the venting system seems to be working properly.

I am using an electric pump with a regulator, and I know the needle and seat are not leaking.

Possibly the electric pump pushing against regulator . Then the regulater bleeds left over pressure between it and the carb .. I'm also using a holly regulater and the mechanical pump and I have left over pressure between my regulater and fuel inlet to carb and I get a Odder of gas after I'm shut of thats the only. Reason I mention this but wouldn't really explain why your bowl is emptying out .hmmm

this sounds alot like what i have going on with my truck. are you 100% sure you don't have a leaking needle seat? mine floods when off as well, one time even flooding out externally and pooling on the carb heat shield.
