Hey guys, so my headgasket just blew on the 55 freeway in socal and it left me stranded 50 miles from home lol, but anyway i overnighted a headgasket rebuild kit and was wondering what head options i had incase the head was toast. I heard the 8r head may or may not bolt up to the 18rc intake and exhaust mani but im not sure. Do those heads bolt up to the 18rc block and manis? This truck absolutely has to run by Monday and I don't have an engine stand or lift or even a driveway to work on for that matter

8 rc head is a strait swap put one on my 18rc last year only difference i found is the compression ratio 9 to 1 on 8rc , 8 .5 on 18 rc dont quote me on the specs im close. look at my builds speaks for them selfs.

Well I just rebuild it this time. The goal is to put a 302 in it with the kit from northwest off-road anyway so I think I shouldn't put too much effort into this

Be careful with those N.O.R mounts. They may push the engine up away from the frame rails and the engine might not fit under the hood.

And the frame rails on the early trucks is super narrow

Found exhaust leak lol. took it apart and cleaned it up. good news is nothing is broken. cam has casting defects and cam bearings need replacement, but the valves are air tight and nothing is cracked. looks like the back cylinder leaned out and melted the gasket. meanwhile, the front cylinder was running rich. Dafuq? any ideas? i have a new weber 32/36 i just ordered a jet kit for, better to be on rich side. intake mani looks like someone attempted to port it, lol. gunna get some quotes from some machine shops for some work this week.

Any chance both you guys got any pictures of your combustion chambers on the 18rc versus the 8rc head?
I'm assuming the compression difference is coming from the shape/volume in the head. Obviously there is a difference in piston bore but I thought they were both flat top models?... I've searched Google images and came up with nothing definitive
