i picked up a set of mustang 5 spoke 16s with tires for 120

tires are 225/55/16 which are too big because the truck was lowered

the rims that were on the truck had 215/35/18s on em

the closest thing it seems is a 205/50/16

is that going to be ok on a 16x8? Or should i look at a 215/50/16

I assume the truck from your signature. SD has 205/50/16s on 16x8s out back, and its just right. If a 225/50/16 will fit out back though, it should look like a good combo.

SD YOTA. You'll recognize his posts and stuff. He is running Mitsubishi Starion rims on his. Same era truck as yours. You are gonna love it.

Mustang 16s are usually 7in wide.

I have 225/55 on the front. A nice square size for it. 7's.
I have 245/50 on the rears. Square tread too. But they are 8in wide out back. (in refering to the amount of "strech" of the tread compared to rim width)

I wish that I went 245 all around. I got flared fenders, would probibly stick out too much for you now that I think about it

Do not, DO NOT put 205's on 7's.

I did on my 94 mustang gt, and it looks, and handles, like garbage. (I was being cheep. 4 for 40 bucks)

ok i saw his build thread

205/50/16 should be fine then, hes got 205/50/16s on his front starion rimz

i kinda hate i gave away some 225/45/16s i had they only had 3/32 tread left but my homie was ridin on cords so i gave him my spares so he didnt die

i have 225/55/16s now, they are to tall, they rub on contact

    i dont have flared fenders/bed

a mustang and a 2600lb truck are 2 differnt beasts

the rims are gonna be my spare set till i fix my 18s which will most likly be next tax season

also its not my daily atm, im still slowly repairing it, my 85 celica gts and 94 celica ended up taking priority over the truck, but now my 94 just needs paint so im back to fixing up the truck

    "YOUUU RAAAAAANNGGG?!?!?"

yea man, like bykr said, a 205/50 will be more than a good enough tire to slap on there. i have those on my 16x8 rear starion's and they wrap on that wheel nice :waytogo:

technically a 225/55 is gonna be 1 inch wider tread width than a 205/50 and about 1/4 to 1/2 inch smaller diameter.

as you can see in my thread, it will roll/tuck the tire sidewall in just a hair in order to keep that wheel line up into the well. im not sure what offset those mustang wheels you picked up are but my rears sit at -10 offset (~4 inch offset) so it sticks waaaay the hell out there. so long as those wheels are within the positive offset (~10+) or 4.5 inches, you should be fine.

I had 225/50/16s on 16x7s on my 78 for a while. Handled waaaay better than stock. More tire and was less sidewall. On a mustang, it wouldn't be enough tread section to handle the weight on the front very well. It will just scrub and "push" through corners. But anyways, the 205/50s should be perfect for you, and look real nice on those rims.

    more reasons to love craigslist

i got lucky and got 2 nice 205/50/16 falken 912s for 50 dollars. they got about 75% tread left, my "used tire guy" has 2 matching 205/50/16s as well he said look close to new. im aiming for tuesday for about 60 mounted and balanced from him.
