has anyone converted from a 2 piece dash in their 89-95 toyota pickup to a 1 piece dash from a 90-95 4runner? Is it a direct swap? (I know you need the different gauge surround). Thanks
Don't know how direct fit it is but it is definitely different. Looking at my 4runner and comparing it to my pickup, the cluster ,climate controls, and radio are the same but the dash pad and the part that the vents and switches( hazard, clutch cancel, defrost (4runner)) pop in to is whats different. If your going to convert, I think the entire dash pad gets swapped out and you can reuse the glove box and everything else. Good Luck
The big black piece that surrounds the cluster is definitely different aswell it uses different mounting along the top ridge, the dash pad is my main concern for fitting as far as bolting in goes. The guage surround will also be swapped. I ask because the 1 piece looks better........ I also have sr5 buckets in there...
I think its different where the dash splits around the cluster. Trucks split by the black part of the dash, leaving the dash in front of the passenger. Whereas in the 4Runner's, the passenger side comes out as well.
Both dash pads are one piece and span the entire cab. On the truck, there is a plastic lip that covers where the top of the dash and the cluster meet. On the 4runner the plastic around the instrument cluster sits under the lip of the dash pad. That's where the "one piece" comes from. Other than that, they look the same unless you have one that didn't come with cup holders. I've got one of each, and in my opinion, they look pretty much the same.
my other reason is the local junk yard has lots of 1 piece dashes and guage surrounds but no 2 piesce ones in good condition..... I had switch go bad that over heated an melted through my gauge cluster surround (the big black piece)....
