Just some FYI. A while ago I was at the junkyard and noticed that 83-97 mighty max springs were real similar to the toyota springs. After some quick measurements it turned out they were the same OD and ID. The only difference is they are about as tall as the stock toyota spring with 2 coils cut. So you will get a drop just switching to mighty max springs. Or you can get Belltech lowered mighty max springs and really go low. Here is a picture of the Belltech mighty max lowered spring (left), stock mighty max spring (middle), and the stock toyota spring with 2 coils cut off (right). Here is the end drop with the belltechs installed. I will try to get some better pics tomorrow. I don't know how much of a drop it is since I never measured the truck with the stock springs. By the way, the tires are 185/70R14. Also, I put in some Tokico shocks from a 67-69 Camaro. The tokicos are a little fatter than the KYB's or stock shocks, so you have to massage the opening in the lower control arm just a hair to get the tokicos in. In my opinion, the truck drives a million time better. The ride is solid and stiff, but not harsh or bumpy. You will have to remove the swaybar and the lower metal bump stop brick, but it's a small price to pay for an awesome suspension setup.
I got them from www.autopartsdealer.com. You have to search for belltech part number 4270. They were the cheapest by far. I also got the shocks from them too. Those are tokico part number HE3346A.
So I've got an RN-10, 1970 Hilux...are the coil diameter/height the same as yours? In other words (the infamously lame noobie question), will these Belltech's work for me? Thanks a ton guys. R
As far as I know they will work, but I'm not 100% sure. Someone else might want to chime in on this one.
Maybe we should start accumulating some parts info and data onto a spread sheet per chassis type? I'm curious to learn how much carried over from the pre '71 model to post.
bet money they do. this last weekend i measured my stout springs vs 78 hilux springs. will work fine, only slightly concerned about the top of the spring cuz i cant see it, but thats nothing a torch or angle grinder cant solve. on topic-ish: 78 corona and older front springs will work too, slightly softer spring rate, with a slightly taller spring.
