Got my truck back running. Had to replace the timing chain and gears. BUT something weird goes on in there. At a low idle, it knocks on the bottom end when its cold. So i have to keep it idled up. Now i know it needs a carb pretty bad and im pretty sure timing is dead on the money. I run R1540...iv ran Rottella in all my vehicals and never had a problem, but you all know more than i do about these 22R. What could cause this "knock" ? Everything in motor is tight and intact. Lmk something thanks!

maybe i will get owned for saying this.. cause i didn't research it.. but um.. isn't rottella for diesels? also what part of MS are you from? btw to get rid of a little knock in my car, i put a little lucas in the oil, cause the car sat about 2 months and i guess the rod bearings got dry and it knocked a little, after the lucas never again.

if you mix up your bolts on the timing cover, more specifically the oil pump you could have put in a longer bolt than needed through the oil pump, it might be hitting your chain tensioner..might want to double check your bolts...i know from experience

Ok. For starters. Rotella can be used anything. Its SAE 1540W oil and a very good clean oil. Compare additives and certifications with any other weight. The weight is very important. I know that an engine is ported for a specific weight. Im not sure on a 22R but iv been running it in my 300zx for years.
Next. I am 110% positive on timing bolts ect. And messing with it today, it starts at a low idle and when its warm. It sounds as if its towards the bottom of the engine. It does ROCK hard like a bad miss when it does it. I started messing i with my screws *they wer F'ed up from the get go* on my carb. I adjusted the bottom screw in a good bit and it calmed the engine down and "DEEP" knock went away. I idled up with the top screw a tad bit. Timing is dead on. Couldnt be any better. So now i need to see how its gonna react in the cold morning tomorrow and when it warms up how its gonna act. O yeah im about 4 hrs north of u, im dead center of memphis and jackson 100miles each way, Grenada, sure youv been to this dump.

    Did you replace your tensioner?

A sticking tensioner/plugged with shat/worn tensioner can give chain rattles...

edit-And rotella diesel oil is the best. Lots of good chemicals in it.
