My RN12 has a rust passenger side and driver side floor pan which I need to replace. I'm also looking for the thin grill inserts on the left and right fender in the front. Does anyone have a doner, or willing to sell me those parts? Also looking for a front windshield since mine has a huge chip in it. Thanks in advance!
i have some rust in my 73 lux floor pans as well.. i cut the floor out of a 79 cab today, i'm gunna see how close they will fit.
my '70 has mad rust too that is going to have to be taken care of, but i'm not super worried about it matching up perfectly. i'm planning on scavenging a later cab floor too and massaging it until it works.
Yeah, with a vinyl floor mat, it doesn't help to get rid of any moisture. Wondering if I need to take my cab off the frame when I need to cut and weld.... Need to dive under my truck again to figure this out.
i've looked at mine several times...i think it is going to take pulling the cab off the frame to get the job done right. if someone else has actually done it with the cab in place, i'm game to know it's possible.
Is the RN2x floor pan identical? Or is it completely different? Even if it was a little off, I might still be interested since it probably utilizes the same metal gauge and material.
In my experience the best option for an amateur repairperson, as long as the damage isn't too bad, is to cut out the rust piece by piece and 'patch' it, rather than completely removing a large section of the floor. Doing it this way allows you to leave as much of the cab original as possible, along with retaining the original integrity and shape of the floorpan. It's very easy to get disheartened if you hack the whole floor out like this: Instead, approaching it in a 'patchwork' fashion gives you a series of achievable little milestones.

Thanks! Some great info. Definitely will be a challenge if I cut out the entire floor. Need to start grinding and figuring out what needs to be replaced, and what can stay....
Sandblasting is a great option for floors, although it's expensive/inconvenient/messy. Alternatively, a "quick strip disc" (google it) on a drill or angle grinder is great for removing paint, bog, and rust but not rough on solid metal like a grinding disc is. Is a good way to see what you're working with. Not as good as sandblasting but it will be more than effective enough so that you can tell what bits need to go and what bits need to stay. Make sure you wear proper protective gear as chunks go flying and there's lots of super-fine dust that CAN'T be good for you!
Thanks! Yes I did use that tool before to remove some minor rust around the batter tray of my '71 Celica project. Luckily that was the only rust and it was minor, so I didn't have to use it extensively. But I get what you mean. It only scrapes the surface and won't get to the fine cracks. I'll just have to do that and then POR15 it.
Ha! True that. I do have some holes. So I'm going to end up: 1. Stripping rust 2. Cutting out sections 3. POR 15 the entire repair section.
I'm doing this right now on my 73. Used a angle grinder with a wire wheel attachment to get all the loose crap out. There are pretty big holes, so I'm cutting out and replacing metal. After that, I'm por15'in almost the entire floor pan. I'll post progress pics, but I've been working on my brakes recently.
