so im lookin around for a new ride......... somethin roomier......... somethin a bit more laid back than my lux was. ive been lookin around for extra cab trucks and run across allot of these extra cab 89-94 trucks with the 3.0 v6 and 5 speed combos. ive seen under the hoods and they look just scary cluttered for being a simple v6. what are your guys' opinions on picking one up vs one with a 22RE? i myself am on the fence on it...... the extra little power and torque would probably be nice but the reliability, parts availability, and mod friendliness of it dont quite convince me yet...........

Those v6s wouldnt be that bad if it wasnt for the head gasket. My pops used to have a 91 xcab SR5 v6 all power, with sport pack, I remember that truck had alot more power than my ride and his was a auto with the ect.
<3 my 22RE xcab. I can see you rocking a 5VZ-FE'd xcab... Grab 3VZ xcab, do 5VZ-FE swap. half the work is already in the truck. and then everyone says you gotta do some tweaking because its a tall motor... whatever, in the end it'll be ****ing fast. btw, did i ever tell you guys how i love to recline my seats in my truck?
I had a 3.0 motor and it was an 89 runner. with 200 I never had a hg problem. I just changed the timing belt and water pump every 80k and it was fine. 5sp with the v6 was faster then my stock 22re but the aftermarket is $$.
I rocked a 91 v6 4wd xtracab v6 for 160,000 miles... parked it at 198,000 with the original clutch just starting to slip and a leaking fuel line... it was a great truck... it was a yota so of course it was BUT... If I had a choice I would buy a 89-93 22re... why not a 94/95 you ask? not only the stupid cyclops tail light but they were built in the US... I'll take a jap built yota first any day... NO TACOS! LOL!

not a big fan of the 3.0 slow... if you want something you are not going to mess with too much get the 3.0 and drive it until the the head pops, then stud it and hope it doesnt pop again. If you want something you can play with and beat the snot out of worry free get the 22re, you can only do minor mods because of the computer control but it will run forever. power wise the 3.0 is a little faster, but not worth the head gasget risk to me... my 2 cents that link is the win!
yea.......... im trying to stay away from the v6....... dont think its too bad of a motor given good maintenance but a 22RE i can play with all day long on the cheap and go boosted easily. i sold my lux because i need more room. i drive some good distances and the standard cab was just not cutting it after 15 minutes of driving. i was starting to have back issues........
Dude that truck looks clean and for that price a steal! I would stay away from the V6. Definitely you don't want to deal with the notorious head gasket issue. You would probably getter better mileage too in that thing considering you don't have a lead foot. A truck like that don't come too often.
i know.............. most of my issue is finding something i will like driving. comfort, drive-ability, custom worthiness, and just some not so common (to me) amenities. im getting older...... trying to find something i can trick out but not make a huge project of. considering how clean Gil's truck came out....... and some things i would change....... i like the body style.... i really do. thing is i also have my bad power hungers that come with owning these little trucks........... and that turbo truck is callin me out...... we'll see what happens. i need to get into something real soon.
