I am in NC. I have two 83s, one an sr5 and one a deluxe loooong bed. I got them both real cheap, but the frame on the sr5 where the bed was was totally rotted out. I bought it for the engine (for the deluxe) and parts anyways, so no big deal, but I agree i dont think the boys out west deal with rot too much. We have trouble with it hear in NC, especially with body parts. frames, etc. it looks like you did some sweet fixes with those frames though. NICE work!

I'm probably the closest to you guys. I'm in louisville Ky. I grew up in Greenup Ky though, and have dealt with rust more than I care to think about. I've noticed that it's not so much the road salt (if you can manage to keep it sprayed off) as much as it's just the road grime that builds up from driving in the rain in this part of the country. Granted, road salt does it's damage too, but the forgotten grime in hard to reach places is where I've noticed the most rust. It's kinda pricey, but after having done the repairs, slap some Por-15 on it. I'm talking the frame (after proper prep, of course) and up under the bed sides. You might have to stand the bed up to do it. This should seal the metal from underneath, and paint will seal the outside. Rust problems solved.

/\/\/\ well this is my youngest son tyler /\/\/\ (that was his first post)

i talked to derek this morn and he said he is going to set up a account also.

i will get some pics of the frame when we doe tylers.going to make a place in the garage for his truck today.need to fix water leak before winter.

i did find a pic of dereks truck w/ the starions.its a crappy cell pic but you guys have seen these rims on plenty of toys.

the tire on the back were 255 50's. they were a bit wide(and very worn and dry rotted).had some fender rubbage. i was wondering if we should just do a 2" block,to give us room?? we just came across a nice set of 205 55" for the front.i wonder if we put the same size on the back, wouldnt that give us more clerance? or will we always have issues because of these wide rims?

tyler would love to find a set of these also.the chances of finding another set would be rare,im sure

anybody got any starions for sale??

    I have many suggestions.
Shave the antenna. Shave the gas door and relocate it inside the bed.
    Make it a unibody!
Do a front end conversion either to a 4 runner or a 98 Tacoma.
4x4 fenders. Shave the corner lights.
    Low low low.
Roll pan. Smooth entire rearend. LED tailights.
Airbag just the back to start with.
    It's something to think about.

you can SLIGHTLY "roll" the fenders. this bends in the tabs of the fenders a bit, to give a bit of clearance.

on the bed sides, there are two brackets holding it relative to the bed assembly itself. If you leave these on, it will "bend" the bedsides when you "roll" the fender lips.

but its a last resort thing.
