so i have a spare 20R sitting in my garage that nobody seems to want to take. so i was sitting around drinking this weekend working on stuff and tripping over that SOB every time i tried to walk across the garage ( beer was not a factor in that )

anyhow...i started thinking since i want some more poop in my trucks scoot ( needs more jiggawatts?? ) should i build that motor since i have it, or should i pick up a 22r and do the hybrid swap and build that one? if i can put the 22r pistons in the 20r block wouldnt it just be easier to build up this 20r? or is there something better about running the hybrid over a straight 20R?

    thanks!

this is what happens when im slow at work....i start plotting evil things

 Get Engnbldr 22R pistons...bore it and get some induction.

    Done!

Even lame stock carb hybrid tears the a$$ out of a 20R, From personal experiance. Big carb(s), bigger cam, and exhaust will make it feel like a different animal.

The 10% bigger displacement and the 1.5-2 pts compression are totally worth it. Trust me.

so it would be worth it to get a 22r to do the hybrid swap then, or will the 22r pistons fit into the 20r block essentially turning it into a 22r block?

edit: and when i ment build the 20R i didnt mean build it stock

get 22r dome pistons from where raff said and take your 20r block to machine shop have it bored to 22r bore size, slap 22r pistons in it and put 20r head on it and you haz beazt mode! keep crack and rods, they are the same as 22r... or if you find a good 22r block then your set... lol...

well the engnblder guy emailed me back saying that the 20R block can be bored to fit the 22r pistons, but its at its limits.... but boring it out saves me money to put into the build...so im gonna do it anyways... nananana boo boo, stick your face in doo doo :)

Good luck getting the stock 22R pistons to fit in a 20R block, max over on the 20R is about .060 safely, then you would need to go roughly another .080 past the .060 to get the stock 22R piston to fit the holes,
Hybrid= big bore 20R personally a waste of time in my opinion.

im kinda with everybody on this, but siding with nook. punching a 20r block out that far is possible, but dont expect it to last. if your gonna punch out the block might as well get a 22r block and punch it out a lil bit and go for the stroker 2.6ltr. but the person i know that did all that work ($5k) is pissed at his 130hp at the wheels.

but im a cheap ass, and i know i could come up with a whole 22r powered somthing for 5-600 or less and do the easy hybrid. then only need a head gasket for the swap. and be able to sell the reverse hybrid motor to pay for stuff.

ya i just cant find a cheap block here in sd, they are all either too new or the owners are on crack and want 900 for a motor that needs a complete rebuild and has been sitting out in the rain n ****.

ya you are right. my block now is an old style single row timing chain block, maybe ill just clean up the head and when i get a free weekend throw it on this block. Need to find an intake though. Kinda sux cause i wanted to run side drafts but i guess that can wait until later.

If you have a single row timing chain, will the double row timing chain fit under the cover or do you have to find a double row timing chain cover? or can you convert the cam over to a single row chain and use all the rest of the lower parts.

bet you could find a -83 celica, corona, or pickup tho

take the motor out, make 2 hybrids, put the 22r head back where it came from and sell it for your money back.:D
