So i was going to adjust the valves today because the truck has over 200k on the clock. so i read up on it, thought i knew what i was doing so i pulled the valve cover off. then i realized i didn't know what i was doing so without messing with anything i put the valve cover back on etc.

NOW! the damn thing will not idle and wont even start without me giving it some gas. its carbed btw not efi.

Why would the idle be ****ed now? all i did was disconnect the throttle cable to remove the valve cover but that shouldn't have messed it up.

Someone tell me what went wrong lol i kinda need to get it out of the garage since i'm in my mothers parking spot.

also can i get some insight on valve adjustment as far as finding tdc

    well wait...
first off you dont need to know tdc to adjust the valves.

second did you put all the vaccume lines n crap back, if you have a stock 22r there is a mess of junk underneath the air cleaner.

i would take the air cleaner back off and double check everything.

adjust em hot! like run it on the freeway then get home and adjust em. You are gonna have to do it fast too cause if it really starts to cool the last adjustments may be loose and noisy.

How do you adjust the valves? And is it the same for all R series engines?

actually the specs are the same for the 22r and 22re...

    .008 intake
    .012 exhaust

there are all these werid directions online about adjusting them. the easiest way i do it is adjust all the valves that are not on the enlarged side of the cam lobe...so basically all valves that are on the base lobe, then turn the motor a bit and adjust the rest that were not on base lobe, keep doing this until all valves adjsuted.

    Adjust mine cold at 7-11.

    Quiet as a BMW. :waytogo:

TDC is irrelevent if you know what to do. Just make sure your off of the cam lobe for each valve as you go.

they are not supposed to be quiet quiet....this valve train is loud...check your running vaccum, if you did it right it should be over 20 inches. if not your vaccum will be low. like 18 or so, tight valves will make your motor not as efficient.
