ok guy i got a 74 rn20 just swap out brake to a 77 so disk brake are a 100% better but looking if i can do some thing bigger and badder and i got 2 more ? i just swap complete spindles shoud i have done proposition valve? i keep the booster and master cylinder dose that make i difference ? i just put a new master cylinder and didnt think but could be wrong ?
Heres the Bigger and Badder for ya. http://s1012.photobucket.com/albums/af244/raffaelli_photos/?action=view¤t=BackView-1.jpg I put those on a 84+ spindle for other purposes, but the same principle would have worked perfect for my 82 spindles (the same as your 77's only flipped). Now as far as your master cyl, definatly have a master cyl sized to your calipers. IDK exactly if you will need one or not, but if you do, I would bet money a 77 one would work.
so ls400 calipers bolt on the spindle but reversed am i getting this right and then the rotor ? ok what year of ls400? plz and thank you
I know that a disc brake swap from a later model 4 eye truck is pretty much bolt on. If you cant find these spindles, LMK asap. I got a lead on some. If you cant find them anywhere, you can use 79-83 truck spindles. They are just flipped right to left side. I could have done that brake swap to my original 82 spindles, but the drop spindles are not available for that year so I ended up swapping everything to a 84+ suspension. In a nutshell, the brake swap is fairly simple. First, find a certain rotor that is the right size. Bigger and thicker, obviously. But a "low offset" mesurement is critical too. If it has too much depth to it, it will hit the spindle. Mounting the rotor centered to the back of the hub is the hardest part. Then after they are centered and mounted, you need to figure out how to mount a caliper. 95 LS400 caliper/rotors just happened to fit almost perfect on 84+ spindles. Heck, one bolt hole fit perfect. Then I drilled and tapped the other one. Ive said elsewhere, this is insane braking power for a light pickup. I can lockup and slide sticky 245's at any speed with little effort. And I do have a project of doing a brake swap. This time, 13in drilled and slotted (94+ mustang cobra) and PBR COBRA calipers. But lots of money for 17in wheels and tires. So far, it looks like another easy swap. LMK if you have any q's.
If your going to use 88 spindles ( my year truck) ,then you should get the brackets from the guy ( I should have is name in my records) on this site & then use the Wilwood 12.9" drilled/slotted rotors & a 4 piston 4Runner caliper. I did this mod & it works great ,& goods great ( you can search the post & see the photo's & or go the my gallery!
