So with the popularity of the Mitsubishi Starion wheels, I thought I would post up a little guide about them. From what I have learned, there were 4 different castings available. All have the same bolt pattern of 5x4.5". Correct me if I am wrong.

    16x7" +30mm ish
    16x8" +12mm ish
    16x8" -10mm
    16x9" -12mm

I know we don't have mods, but when we do (or I am one), this will already be there to sticky.

i think there's a couple corrections on the offset's but you got most of em down :waytogo:

    16x7" +18 (F)
    16x8" +18 (F)
    16x8" -10 (R)
    16x9" -11 (R)

at least thats what i have seen on the castings.....

let it also be known that the more commonly seen starions as like the ones on my 86 are usually from 85 or 86 and up Mitsubishi Starion (or also seen on) Chrysler Conquests.

here are some examples of them.

Reason I asked is I think i am going to try and stuff, and I mean stuff a set of 7s and 9s into my 78. :D I have a spare rearend to narrow. And it would look mean as all hell to fit those underneath.

 i converted yet anotha brotha

you gonna have enough room back there between the frame and inner fender line?

depending on when i find the time to do this, i am converting my front's over to 8 wides so ill have a spare set of 7's lying around in decent shape....... lemme know if you'd be interested too :waytogo:

actually, come to think of it i also have a spare set of rear 8's too

Depending on price, and how quickly you want to sell them...I would be interested. Shipping on tires and wheels is usually about $100 or so up the coast. Or if you wanna make a special appearance at the June Seattle HiLux show...haha.

And I used to have 16x7+40 w/ 225/50/16 on the back. And they tucked. So, the amount I need to cut from the rear end is going to be determined by the wheel offset I run in the back. Fronts would fit with 205s no problem. Rears...I may have to flare/molest my bedsides.

Are any of the rears that are on in those photos the 16x9s, or just the 16x8 REARs?

the first 2 have the 16x9 rears... but that was 2 years and several inches of drop ago....

they never would have cleared the 4wd bed as you can tell from that rear angled shot, i have had to drastically tuck pinch and roll the fender lips on the rear fenders just so i could have enough room to slide a damn credit cards worth of width through the bed and tires..... so it sure as hell would not of cleared the 2wd bed.

ill see if i cant find a shot of it with the 9's back there before i swapped beds.....

here's the best one showing how far off it was........ i think i was running a 245/55 in the rear 16x9's. and a 225/55 in the front 16x8.

Well I have two points to bring up about wanting the 9s. First, 78 and back trucks didn't have 4wd body parts to utilize. Secondly, I have a whole extra rearend from a hilux. I am going to regear it, and narrow it. So basically, I will run the rear tire sucked in as far as I can before the frame is an issue, and flare the bed to clear the rest.

Here is a few shots of when I had my 16s. I wish I had an underneath shot, from the rear. But I can't seem to find any when I had the probe rims. I do have some good front 3/4 perspective shots though, and you can see that with those, I had a decent amount of space with a stock bed.

I had a good inch or so around the edge of the tire. Using a tire the same size, with more rim width, it should fit in there. I will measure things out. But i think a 7/9 combo would fit. I'd settle for 8" rears if I had to. Lol.

yea..... the only thing you really have to do is measure your clearance from frame to bottom of the inside wall of your fender. if you have 9 inches or more between there im sure you can make it work, then just figure out where the offset of the wheel will sit it in order to cut down the axle to length.

either that or just go IRS

I'd love matching camber out back. But my tire budget would have to double. I can't afford that as it is.

You bringin some starions to the Seattle meet? :D

I have a question about lug nut compatibility. I just recently picked up some starion rims and wonder if i'm using the correct lug nuts. I'm using the stock ones that came with the truck. I'm not damaging the rims am I?

Chrome acorns look better, but a stock seat should work. They had similar sized lug studs as the trucks.

So, I am still wanting some of these. SD, you have any with tires or are they rims only? I am in the market for some as soon as other parts sell.

when running 16X7 in front and 16x8's in the rear do I need spacers or can I just bolt these wheels right up on a 1993?

Straight up bolt on... I test fitted them on my 82, no center bore or balljoint issues. :waytogo:
