Copied from my project thread over on my home forum...

    ---

Yeah so.. picked this up off JayWhit about 1.5 yrs ago.. Ive always wanted one.. and my mom needed something to run yard waste.. and I can always use a truck.. so why not.. was totally NOT going to be a project.. oops.

4 wheel drum, 18RC, auto, longbox.

Frame is solid with the exception of 1 cab mount.. cab (obviously) needs some love.. as I dont care tremendously about this one, I figure its an excellent practice piece for my bodywork welding..

When I got it, one of the prev owners had plugged off the rear brake circuit with a bolt in the m/c .. so it was front drum only.. ran a few piles of stuff to the garden depot.. and then a few months back was comin down the hill behind my place towards a stop sign.. front wheels got onto leaves and I slid into the middle of the intersection.. nice n gracefully.. so I figured that was that..

Turns out.. Toyota is awesome. Balljoints and brake booster mounting are the same all the way up to '83.. so grabbed some parts a few weeks back outta the junkyard for cheap and finally started swapping stuff today..

Disc front end will more or less slip onto the balljoints with no changes.. have to run some new brake pipe in the engine bay as the routing is a bit different than an '83 but no big deal.

As soon as the brakes are done I'll check compression.. if its decent I'll just throw a weber 32/36 on to fix some carb issues, update the 18RC points dizzy to 22R elec ignition internals and then start on body..

olive drab body with black wheels n front bumper is the current plan.. have a line on some 200x Tacoma 2wd steelies with tires..

So yeah.. I dont intend to try and lay frame on this.. as its primary purpose in life is going to be a parts hauler and lawn/garden waste dumper for my mom etc.. but it'll definately have to come down a little.. and pretty up a bit..

Im going to use this one as practice for sheet metal and welding skills.. then just give it a quick n dirty paint job in the driveway..

Ive a line on a 77 parts truck that Ive already pulled a few things from .. heck, I may even grab the whole cab if its in better shape than mine.. my floors have issues..

Hope to make a bunch of progress on it this weekend.. and I know the wife would really prefer to not have it sitting up on jackstands in the driveway, heh..

yeah the spindles are the same from 75-83 for a disc swap. the 79-83 need to be flipped side to side though. they had the steering on the front side of the crossmember.

Hey now!!! theres some advantages to being up there, the views better, no tire to fender clearance issues, easy to change oil, fat girls can't jump, plus what is it they say???? lowriders are for those that can't get it up:D
Brett, nice project, good luck with it, didn't mean to stray off topic:waytogo:

Thats like the same as me and toy_boy. 73 trucks, 77 part trucks LOL. I robbed my 77 for the disc brakes in the front, all new everything except for spindles. Its amazing how it stops compared to drum.

Cool truck, I have some holes in my floors, nothing over an inch diameter.

well, havent got any more parts ON to the truck.. but Ive picked up a bunch more stuff..

Hit the junkyard on Saturday with a buddy so I could grab some brake hardlines to make the disc swap easier.. and while i was there grabbed the gauge cluster, dash insert (radio cover, heater controls etc), glovebox door, ashtray, turn stalk, pass fender (rusty on the bottom, but less beat up than mine), windshield.. (mines delaminating in the edges) and, the 'piece-de-resistance' a minty dashpad that I figure the owner of the parts truck must've replaced at some point.. 'cause its still quite soft and came off the truck niiiice n easy without cracking or anything..

    Mmmmm.. mooooore parrrrts..

sweet! i just swapped a new pad onto my 78 sunday. mine had two small cracks, but the new one was perfect. i also have a factory black console as well if you need one. from a stick shift truck. if you need random small parts, let me know.

and if you find/have hilux fender badges, even just one, I WANT IT :D
