hey guys so i just need clarification on whats the differences in weber carbs cause a few of them im looking at buying have just the number 32,34,36 on them and are cheaper then the 32/36. whats the difference??? and how much have you guys paid on your webers? i have found new ones from 250 and up. but obviously a new 32/36 wont cost 400$. unless you buy from lcengineering.
The 32/36 I bought was 300.00 before taxes and had everything I needed to install it as well. The 32/36 doesn;t have the CFM of the 38 and is a progressive carb vs the 38 not being so. By progressive I mean that there is a primary barrel and a secondary, the primary opens first and at a certain point the secondary will open based on throttle position. The 38 constantly runs on both barrels. The 32/36 is a better choice for a commuter as it will most likely provide the best economy, while the 38 flows more and is more of a performance oriented carb. I can't say from personal experience that either one makes much difference on a stock 20 or 22R, but my guess would be it isn't a large one unless you've got some decent mods. If you are using the vehicle for a daily ride you'd probably be better off, overall, with a 32/36. If you're dragging or crawling go with a 38. Reliability between the models is a question I can't answer.
Another thing, make sure the Weber setup you get is through Redline. There are many copies of the Weber, none I know of are worth anything in comparison. You can also look at using a Holley, but I haven't ever used one on a small motor and I think most Holley's are larger than the Webers so it's probably more of a what you have laying around or performance question. The 32/36 seems well regarded as well as the 22R carb over the 20R carb. So far as I'm aware the bolt pattern for the carb on both 20 and 22R manifolds is the same. I can tell you the 32/36 was an out of the box massive improvement over my stock 20R carb. Specify what motor and performance level you are buying for as the carbs can be shipped with larger or smaller jets based on mods/displacement.
what both of them have said is about the best answers u can get. I personally ran a 38 weber on my 22r. I also had a header, exhaust and a few other mods. It was alot better over stock. I bought mine from LcEngineering and was very happy with it. I would also suggest that if ur just commuting then to get the 32/36. Just another note, i never had any problems with the carbs as far as reliability problems.
Honestly, you won't really notice gains in power in bolting a 32/36 or 38. Most carbs will only flow air/fuel faster over stock ones. It's the other mods that will compliment the bump in air/fuel. To answer your question, the difference between the carbs are the sizes of their bores. 32/36 means it has a primary bore of 32mm and a secondary with 36mm. Same applies to the other carbs listed. Bigger bore = more air/fuel. More air/fuel usually means more power.
I disagree. You'll feel a different from stock to a 38, but with mods a major different. I have a 38 on my 22r. The most performance i get with the 38 is the money coming out of my wallet to fill the truck up. You'll get bad fuel mileage. You would think your driving a v8. Good luck.
hit up craigslist and get one used. the rebuild kits are 15 bucks. i picked up my 32/36 for 75$, the casing was perfect, I threw a rebuid kit in it even though it looked like it didnt need it, and viola! perfect carb. There are very little moving parts in these carbs, the rebuild kit was a float, needle, and a gasget..thats it. Rebuilding it required a screw driver. here is the link http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/32_36_DGAV_EV_Repair_kits_and_Parts_s/50.htm kits on the right of the screen
Anyone have a pic of the throttle linkage setup on an installed Weber? My kit has the normal parts but the assembly instructions SUCK. If I use just the lever I won't have the idler rod... so I won't be able to set the idle speed. Anyone have a pic? Just need the throttle arm side. Thanks!
