not in March ... I still have NO paint .. so I still have to blow it all apart to do the inners .. I'm hoping this year though !!!! .
ok .. so a little work on the door today .. got the old original unit stripped and in pieces some measurements for location refferance and the main frame re-welded and sandblasted also while the frame was in sandblast .. I worked on polishing the window alum. piece .. as some may remember .. I'm going with a strong chrome theme . .... .
i just dont understand why they had a weird rear gate. why not have it go all the way to the floor level? it is just strength and support? i would have done it as a 2 part gate/lift or a large lift.
I was going to .. I was actually going to build an actual tailgate for it at level with the top of the box , which would drop down . add a new rear glass which would lift ... couple of reasons for the use of the stock piece ... first i'm running out of time for the build .. It has to be done this summer , and just not enough time to build a custom piece for the rear .. second , I thought it would take away from the integrety of the "Trekker" .. like it or not , this is the door the Trekker came with . With the minor modifications I have done on the out side , I think a custom door would have been "too much" .
got some epoxy on the steel .. and some hi build on the plastics i'm going to make a mould of the inner plastic trim .. fiberglass will be stronger and easier to repair if necessary .. I dont know why Winnabego didnt do this in the first place ? anyway .. a pic .
one of the last pieces I have to make .. kick panels .. so I have now done a little bit more work on them .. because of the body computer on the drivers side , and the computer on the passenger side .. stock would not sufice any more , so as in the previous pic , I made a template , and built it to fit .. primered , and being sanded .. almost ready for moulds .. .
i love how you are making molds for all the little custom stuff youre making. so you can redo them again later. very nice touch. ive though about doing that for some parts but just dont have the shop space.
Looks good! Please o please!!! Slam the other trekker!!! I want to see one of those on the ground so bad.
cool huh ? .. the engine is already built , and should produce ~400hp .. really .. I cant wait to get back on this one ... .
so a little time for a wee bit of work on the last bits .. I have finished the moulds for the kick panels .. hopefully tomorrow , I can start making me a set .. also working on the rear hatch trim panel mould .. .
so , kick panels are done.. I was only able to "fit" one side because I need to finish up the wireing .. but here's what they look like .. and installed and I also decided to get a NEW hood .. just because everything else is new .
and so .. The body work begins .. started at the front .. with the bumper . becuse of the 1" body lift .. the front bumper didnt quite sit right .. so I made some 1" extension brackets and welded them to the bumper supports .. legthed some spacers for the other mount .. and viola .. front bumper done .. .
body work has started .. little time today to work on the valance.. I wanted a custom piece .. reasons are .. well I just have sooo much time !!!!! the original center mount is no longer there , so holes would be mute and I dont like the transision between the side mounts so the plan is .. to use a 2WD valance .. (it has a deeper center and also lines up with the grill ends .. beauty body lines ) The 2WD valance mounts differently , and is also shorter , and also has a center support .. so .. heres the start .. cut off the center support .. and "bent it" to fit better ..... I will also get rid of the mounting bolts .. and have a "smooth" trasition between the valance and the fender .. hammered a new piece to fit .. .
yes it will be .. this is just a "mock up" piece the 'glass is way more "sturdy" then just the sheet metal .. so yes fiberglass so no rattles or vibrations .
continueing on with the valance .. I finished up welding the end pieces on , and a little bondo .. and a first coat of primer .. still lots of sanding and finishing .. but you get the idea . I will be making a mould for it ... as the fiberglass will be less flimsy also finished up the rear hatch cover finished today VERY happy ... and WAYYYYYYYYYY stronger then the flimsy plastic piece .
