I just put a different engine into my 92 pickup. It is still a 22RE. I added a new K&N intake. It also now has a 4 Runner radiator. Brand new so it should have helped cool down the engine well. And new spark plug wires. But, I drove it hard in some pretty hot weather. Once I shut down the truck it wouldn't start again. I had to push start it. I parked it and let it fully cool down. Got a jump start and drove it 2-3kms when it overheated again. It overheats very quickly! Will I be okay to replace the t-stat? What other issues may arise?

You didn't state if the engine is new or not so I,m just making guesses, new engine, bearing clearances or piston/ ring clearances too tight and after getting hot and expanding is just too much for the starter to turn over? leaking head gasket letting water into cylinder hydrolocking the engine?
Fan clutch no good, thermostat sticking closed, collapsed radiator hose, normally lower hose, bad water pump impeller, air lock in engine that hasn't burped out, radiator plugged, you said new radiator, new as in new or just new to rig from another rig? no fun runnin hot, good luck

Depends on how accurate the stock gauge is, my sons 86 22re runs about 1/4+/- on the stock pointer but his mechanical, autometer gauge shows 195.

    replaced fan

The clutch on my fan was bad. I put a used fan on and drove it home. When I parked it I let it run for a bit. The idle was jumping back and forth from about 100 to 1100. Maybe it's still very hot internally. What can I do now?

You replaced the fan clutch, drove it home and let it idle for a bit, was it still overheating? the erratic idle might be the TPS, bad or out of adjustment or possibly just the idle speed set too high as they will idle up and down if its too high.

The engine didn't make it man

Ya..... I was driving over a mountain pass. Pushing hard. And the engine block exploded. So it was the headgasket I am guessing. I bought a 4 runner for $500 and did an engine swap. And bought a new 4 runner radiator.
But ya. I think I should also put it ARP head studs and a new gasket.
