can you post a pic of the led you used i know its a 194 but there are many different led versions(single led,3 up front, multiple all around etc.) Thanks!
Thanks..i wonder if you get the ones that have leds pointing outward if the gauges would be lit even more? anyone using that kind of bulb?
surface style LED's (the ones on the chip board) are pretty much damn bright and multidirectional as you can get. as far as i know. I know the regular LED's we shave off the round tip
you just twist out the stock bulbs, and swap those into place. ive done it on plenty of cars and trucks. take each bulb out from the back one by one, and shine a flash light in there. if it lights and idiot light, dont change it. if it lights the gauges, do change it. back when i have a 92, i planned to take 3-4 green, red, and blue and wire them up into a little pod that gets attached inside the cluster where each stock bulb went. maybe an extra for dimmer areas. and then wire it in different combinations on a multiple position always-on rotary switch. so one spot is green, another is red, blue, red/blue, green/blue, red/green, green/red/blue, ect. maybe also use white. come up with some cool color combos. that way i can make pretty much whatever color i want. obviously on the combos i would put a small resistor in line to knock down the brightness since it would be more LEDs lit. to try and make total output fairly even. and i was going to put that switch in the area to the right of the headlight dimmer. with a stock dimmer knob on it. i may end up doing this for my 78. possibly other cars and trucks i have too. i could probably make it a kit that could be installed into a toyota cluster. i need to get caught up on some bills then order some parts. if anybody is interested i can provide more info and my 3D models of the concept.
Use a wide angle LED to get rid of that cold spot between 50-70mph. Something like this... Scroll down to where you see "WLED-x5 LED Wide Angle LED bulb" http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR#WLED-x-x
thats a good point. or with the typical dome leds, you can sometimes bend them into a different angle in the 194 replacements. so that some aim slightly sideways.
you can actually achieve these multi colors with one led, just buy a RGB LED no need to buy one of each color
do they have a wire for each positive or is it just a cycle through each? which itself would be kinda cool. like an auto mode that just keeps changing. lol. i have a small circuit for that actually from a kids toy that had 1 single 3 color. it would be a cool spot on the switch. i wanted to use the flat style not the round bullets. and use some of that drop ceiling light panel as a diffuser to help even it out.
Your right Cin. I was guna this to my Dodge neon i used to have and found i needed the wide angle to avoid the cold spots
