A few of my 4x4 buddies order all of their parts off www.rockauto.com I haven't ordered any6thing from them yet, but I have searched for a few parts on the site and they seem to be super cheap. Like these fenders for example:

    http://info.rockauto.com/BodyParts/Detail2.htm?http://www.orderkeystone.com/images/400/TO1240127.jpg

$35.79 for a CAPA certified fender. Crazy cheap right? Anyone here order from rock auto or have any opinions on these fenders? I am probably going to be ordering up a couple of them in the next few days.

I order most of my mechanical parts from them. Been happy everytime so far. Never ordered a body panel. I would imagine the fenders are of the same quality as certi-fit which I have used. They are crap, never could get it to fit right and metal is super thin. I would get fenders from a junkyard. I bought both my 4runner fenders for $35 from a local junkyard. My guess about rockauto is they can sell their parts really cheap because they make most of their money off shipping. $70 to have that fender shipped to me. $120 to have two shipped. It almost always ends up being cheaper for me to have my local parts houses order parts for me after rockautos shipping gets added.

Wow, what a bunch of B.S.! $70 to ship to me too. That really sucks. Well, now I know. It seemed too good to be true... I figured they were probably paper thin or something, but didn't figure on paying twice the cost of the part in shipping. Needless to say I won't be ordering them from rockauto...:looney:

$100 for a brand new rust/dent free fender is a damm good price.

old ones with dents and rust go for $50+ around here.

and shipping is based on size too...

I am sure size is a factor, but still, that seems excessive. I noticed that certifit lists fenders for my truck for $24.95. So if $100 is a good rate for a new fender certifit must be charging $70 plus for shipping as well? I will have to call them to find out for sure (unless someone has already ordered from them and can offer some insight). There is no way I can see to calculate shipping on their site.

As for rockauto, I would have to agree with cajuntaco that it seems like a good place for mechanical parts. I priced a clutch locally and it was $150 (new manufactured clutch from NAPA). On rockauto it is $100, so even with the $13 and change shipping I can save a quick $35 by shopping on rockauto. I hope to find a better deal on shipping for larger stuff like fenders though.

i've used certifit parts. they are thinner and the fit is a little off. but for example: on my sisters 01 dakota the junkyards wanted $350 for a inner and outer fender. we bought the hood, bumper, valance, fender and headlight assembly for less than $400 from certifit. after some time fitting and paint you really couldn't tell the difference.

    Just a update...

I went to another wrecking yard the other day and had no luck on the bed, fenders, and drivers side door I was after. He had one aftermarket fender in stock for $101, which seems to be about the going rate I guess, but I passed on it. Yesterday I got bored and decided to try to hammer out the dents in the passenger side fender. It wasn't as bad as the drivers side. It got crunched in and up from a mild front impact of some sort. It hammered out pretty well. I think with a little bondo work I wont need a passenger side fender after all. This was really inspiring so I moved on to the driver side door and fender. The driver side fender is trashed. At some point the previous owner had the door open and backed it into something apparently and bent it back mashing up the door and fender really good. Since then it has made this horrible metal to metal noise every time the door is opened. Anyway, I was able to get this fender straight enough so that it at least doesn't make contact with the door until I find the deal I am looking for on a aftermarket fender or a junkyard find. I am really excited about the door though. I used a dent puller and was able to straighten it out much better than I had anticipated. I may not need a new door after all. I want to get a new fender on there and see how it fits up to the door before I do the bondo work to make sure I get it right. I'll post some pics later. (wishing I took "before" pics).

Sounds exactly like the damage I am dealing with (deep v a few inches from the front of the door), but I didn't have a stud gun to work with. That must be helpful. The slide hammer did pretty well though. I was looking at it again this morning and I think I could go a little further with it, but it is already a hundred times better than it was. It shouldn't take too much bondo to get it all straightened out.

the stud guns are nice. when i pulled it, it was "tin canning" a bit. i used the shrinking tip on the gun and tightened it up. i recommend the gun. i think you can get a cheap one for around like $100. i bought my from a matco dealer. its rebranded as matco, he wanted $600 but i got it for $360, since the aluminum steps on his truck broke and i welded them back together.

$100 bucks is way cheaper than I would have expected but I still can't afford one right now, so I am going to have to try to pull it off with the old school dent puller for now. It's kinda on hold though until I get a new fender to use to match the front of the door up too. I think it is getting close, but it's not pretty. You can see on my project thread I just started. It is way better then it was though. In the future I would definitely like to get a stud gun.

If i had to buy a fender for $100 at a time.... that means one week i will have a 4WD on the left side, then the right, then finally catch up with teh bumpers... lol

You guys are having such a hard time finding fenders, I may just have to pull all of them at the you pull it over here next time I go. I think they want 20 or 25 for an oem used fender. Usually people get the bumpers and stuff real quick tho. They were at least 4 4runners last time I went with fenders. None of them had grilles or headlights or bumpers though.

I've got my original 2wd fenders if someone wants them, just shoot me a pm.

The 4runners I saw were gold, 2 green ones, and I don't remember the other. No red. My oe 2wd fenders are greenish gray and are the only ones I "have".
