I have a 1990 ext-cab pickup with small door wing windows. I would like to change them out to the one piece windows. Will the windows from a standard cab fit? Could someone tell me whats involved in changes out the windows?

I am pretty sure the door shell is the same... but I think it would be much easier to get another set of doors...
Unless you can get a set of used doors with some damage or rusted out cheap and switch the guts...

You will need the glass, regulators and frames/guides to the glass... plus all the rubber trim and gaskets...
The door panel will need a new trim piece too

Yeah it took me three months to find a xtra cab pickup for sale that didn't have the wing windows.

The thing I'm not sure about is the structure between the wing window and the regular window. Is it a steel piece and if so, how difficult would it be to cut it out?

im glad my truck came without wing vents

im fairly sure the trims the same on the inside, I have a notch in my window rubber for the wing window. I know the trim along the outside of the window would need to be changed. I also think your best bet is to find a set of complete doors and gut them.

BUT if you have speakers cut in the doors you will probably (if you have nice speakers) need to space them out 1/4 -3/4 of a inch. if its only 1/4 you can glue a wood spacer ring on the back side of the door panel and wont have to see it.

I would try and find some power regulators or do a electric-life kit and power locks or shaved handles since you are going to be pretty far into door surgery already... and some dynamat since its super easy, if you have speakers or not.

with shaved handles and dynamat your truck door will sound like a caddy when you close it

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY experiment on the passenger door first just in case your window stops moving.

I am positive its held in by 1 or 2 10mm.. The very worst thing you might have to deal with is drilling out metal indentions where holes didn't get drilled.
I am almost positive standard cab internals are exactly the same.

alright , so I just looked at my windows and you will need the inner door rubber trim too, but anyone that has not already changed their weatherstripping/ rubber trim in their 89-95 pickup probably needs to anyway.

ive been toying with the idea of getting rid of those nasty vent windows, i might just look for a donner/junk truck and steal the doors off of it.

Does anyone know if you can swap a rear window assembly with slider to a standard 1 peice window. I really hate that slider, The one pices rear glass looks so much cleaner from the outside:confused:

yeah its super easy, pop the trim all the way around from the inside and it will pop right out.

I took mine off of a 4runner. I haven't put them on yet but I'm about 98% positive that the doors will bolt right up. Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for the power windows? thats the only thing that is holding me up from putting them on

I just ditched my sliding rear window. It was pretty easy. I got the window and gasket for around $175. Couldn't find a used one.

Unless your 4runner doors are from a 1990/91 2 door 4runner (vary rare)

I hate to say they won't fit your truck... the 4 door 4runner doors are shorter than truck doors...

as for wiring them I used an aftermarket power window switch kit to wire stock power regulators...

    GOOD LUCK

Well I'm gonna try it. But I guess if they won't fit then I'll be swapping out the guts

Nope, did it myself. Kinda tricky.

You put the new gasket on the glass, put a piece of strong string around the outside of the gasket in the groove that will eventually have the crimp seam inside it. You want the two tails of the string should be in the center of the bottom. Then with a friend's help (I managed to do mine myself) hold the window in place with the string inside the cab. Start working by pulling the string towards the inside of the cab working back and forth from one side to the other. Pulling the string inside will help you roll the gasket lip into the other side of the crimp seam. Once you get the whole way around, you are done. You will need to periodically go out and push on the outside of the glass and gasket to aid in getting the gasket to move into it's home.

    Thats nuts:eek:
I thought its was glued in place!
What keeps the window from poping out when you close the doors??? I know when all my windows are closed its somtimes hard to shut the driver side door(presure)
Does the slider window just pop out ????< or is it glued in

No glue... just the gasket holds it in...
I have done glazing (windows) on train cars... same thing
and they pass at combined speeds of over 200mph less than a foot apart...
    Those windows don't blow out....
Never heard of a toyota window popping out!

When you see how tricky it is to get the slider out without cutting the gasket and how fun it is to re-install the new window, you'll get the idea....
