So, today I was checking all the fluids on my vehicle and doing corrections as needed, when it came to my truck, whilst removing the Radiator Cap, a small rubber piece on the bottom-most portion of the cap tore out of its mounting point. Judging from the cracking on all the rubber around the radiator cap it's safe to assume its original. I couldn't pull an exact part number for the rubber piece on the radiator cap, but only the radiator cap assembly (Part No. 16401-36011 for those interested) in its entirety. If anyone knows what the rubber piece is (see attached picture) do let me know, this radiator cap still works fine its just this rubber piece I'm worried about Maybe I'm just thinking too much but I don't want any rubber pieces floating around in my cooling system...
The time wasted trying to find a part number you could've just gone to the parts store and bought a new one.
That's true, just curious if anyone knows about this though. Worst case I'll get a new one, can't find any newold stock.
Hmmmm, interesting... I've never heard of, oe seen, just the rubber seal being sold alone. And I've never seen a radiator cap with a seal that's in the shape of a cap, either... As jetas says, should probably just get a whole new cap...
Lol. You'd actually trust an NOS cap from the 80s? That shit would be all kinds of dry rotted. Its a radiator cap, just buy a new one and keep driving
If it was stored right sure. A lot of them are just thrown in a box. Lots of factors to keep rubber stored its better off not to wounder. I wouldnt think that it would have that long of a life span like another 40 years. I would of took @jetas advise but thats just me. I guess it is easy to replace if you have a problem. Maybe keep a stant on hand.
Got the new cap in today, looks the same, and as a bonus the rubber on my original that was broken is in excellent condition! Heck, the whole cap is pretty much new!!!
