That was about the size I had to patch. Its pretty easy if you have a decent welder. You'll be in better shape if you can get your hands on a die grinder. I did it all with a 4 inch ceramic pad and hand sanding. That was a bitch but not to bad.
Nice! Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping to pick up a light duty welder after the holidays. Die grinder would be nice too, do you have a pneumatic or electric one?
I dont even have a die grinder yet. I just have an milwaukee m18 grinder and 4 inch disk. 2 inch would be better because its tight. I would recommend a miller, Lincoln. Or esab muilti process machine. Most of them will ajust setting for thickness. Good for starting out and you'll keep them around even if you upgrade.
Got the tank remounted. Had a break in the weather so I could get on the ground without getting drenched .Going to run new stainless fuel lines along the rail. Have 16ft on the way. Should get me where I need to be. Picked up another fuel pump filter and line clamps. Happy to say i dont have to cut out and modify any of the bed floor framing for the access door.
Access door temporarily mounted. Need to make a frame and weld the door to it. Until then self tapers it is. Also got my first dress up piece for the 20r. New oil cap!
I joked about it then I did it. Used a backup camera as a gas gauge. Ghetto fabulous. Got my stainless fuel line ran and clamped. Also ran the wire for the fuel pump. Should only have to get on the ground one more time.
Haven't done that yet. Still working on that. Thinking I might just go with a vintage air slim underdash ac/heater in the future to give it the fully equipped look. It's pretty close to stock looking.
Well just got my truck registered and tabbed. Probably be driving it tomorrow after I get my fuel pump.
Well made it to the gas station and the shop. The clutch was giving me some trouble. With the clutch down and trying to go into reverse you would here it grind. Going to start with the clutch master and slave. So pumped to get on the road I didnt even pay attention to my speedo the first couple trips. It does work. Anyway got some glory shots. Had to get a photo with the gto in the background.
Got a few miles on her today. Hit the main road also. Got up to 40. Felt pretty good. Could really use a parking brake. Just need the cable from the firewall to the pivot arm. Also put on a license plate light. Also replaced my leaking coolant overflow line. First time I got to roll up to the parts store.
I must point out this was going on in my city. And I was working outside on the ground.https://www.facebook.com/1813051196/posts/2825468527474116/?substory_index=43&sfnsn=mo&d=n&vh=i
A video from this morning taking it around the block. I need to use gps and see in my speedo is accurate. Also not having every bolt in the fenders has help get them to where they need to be.
Heck yes dude! Always nice to see these old guys driving. Where was the camera mounted? it was a good view... maybe i need to post a video.
