i'm kinda looking for a exhaust manifold for the 18r in my 73 hilux. but at the same time i'm thinking about fabbing a custom intake and header. if i fab the intake then i could make it accept the 32/36 weber i have sitting in the garage. what do ya'll think i should do?
i actually want it running right now more than custom. the sooner it runs the sooner the s-10 goes away. its tainting my toyota truck theme...
i vote for throwing away that 100% cast iron boat anchor, er 18r. a 2xr will fit there and bolt up no prob. or a 4,5,6,7m or 1,2jz with a lil work on the eng mounts. good luck finding a new exhaust manifold, or even a decent shape used one. that is one of the worst designs ive ever seen. the intake seals the exhaust mani on the top, the bolts always sieze and break. if you insist on keeping that motor the 2 piece weber adapter for a 2xr will work on the 18r.
no, i have the carb for the motor. i scored a weber for $20 at the junkyard and have been waiting for a motor to use it on.
if your intake and exhaust is bolted up, dont touch it, or prepare for at least 3 of 4 bolts breaking where the open square is on the top of the exhaust manifold
nuff, the whole exhaust manifold is missing. the guy told me the original owner removed it because it was cracked, and started looking for one. i have the original bolts and they did break one of them. i pulled the gaskets tonight and tomorrow i'm going to start rounding up the material to fab a new intake and exhaust. also, i don't have the key to the truck so i took the plug on the column loose and jumped it. it turned over fine, and almost sounds like it will run. i'm not considering a swap unless the stock motor lets loose.
making a new manifold is the best bet you got. the intake only needs the exhaust to seal the egr exhaust port, but they wouldnt be hard to plug. prolly would help to seperate the carb n exhaust anyway. the intake temps on a 18r are stupid, can boil gas on a hot day. they are decent motors, just not supported very much if at all anymore. heres a manifold www.toyheadauto.com
