So I'm looking at the Haynes repair manual and its saying that the steering components are all the same up until 1978. Can any confirm this? Have you ordered the 2nd gen steering parts and fit them ok on the 1st gen?

My concern is when I get on rack auto to look at the parts they have them listed by year and the parts are not the same.

I've actual ordered a 76 pitman arm and it seemed to be longer an bulkier that the one pulled off (no idea if it was orginal)

I just want to make sure this is correct before I order ny parts, I want to refresh the hole steering setup.

If the 1st gen is like the early gen 2 trucks up to 74 then yes.

75-78 frames are wider to accommodate the 20R.

Thats an interesting note. Wonder if between the adjustable parts and the pivoting parts there is enough wiggle room to make it all work.

The parts look like they're the same as the gen 2

It works fine. I just did it.
Amazing difference having a decent idler and pitman on the truck.
Now I just need to tighten up the steering box a touch.
Went from 3.5/4” of play to 2”
