Has anyone moved their battery to under the bed, on the passenger side, on the outside of the frame rail? Mazda REPUs came this way from the factory. I have a long bed and it seems like there is plenty of room to put the battery there. Other than a little better weight distribution, it just seems like a fun project (I'm dreaming up new ideas for the day when my house is done and I can start nodding my cars, full time!).
Unless you need the proper weight setup, there are better ways to spend your time and money. there is a typical battery/intake swap that most people do with the 22re's. I have an example in my build thread.
Like Cora on the coffee commercial used to say “ If its not broke, don’t try to fix it “ (probably before your time). Two problems I see with your project. If you move your battery to the frame rail you’ll have to protect it from road hazards and you’ll have to wire in remote posts in the event you ever need a jump start. The weight distribution would be negligible compared to the cost involved . IMHO. Fred
I moved by battery into the cab behind the drivers seat,( extra cab), it sits inside a enclosed battery box, secured to the floor. I run 1ga wires on ground & positive leads. Positive lead runs inside the frame up into the engine bay to a distribution box on the passenger side . I have a hidden hood release so can get into the engine bay if needed to jump start at the distribution block.
Thanks! Nice little project and nice build. The only reason I was toying with moving the battery is, it just seems like a fun thing to do. That's why I put the feeler out to see if anyone else has done it.
