Oh, yeah, I definitely went the expensive way. Part of that was how much I enjoy the 22rte engine, and partially a big insurance payout from getting hit by a car on my bike. I have also done a lot of work on my engine, but have never built an engine from bottom to top. This seemed like a great way to get that experience and get a badass engine.

All in all with all of the big and little things from the engine parts to the ignition system and every little nut and bolt I replaced it is probably looking at about 3K..... so what I paid for the Truck hahaha

That is what I was looking at for a rebuild to net like 110hp.

So far I'm +$100 on my 1UZ VVti...but it ain't gonna come easy once I crack into the project.

Been doing a lot of pondering on new tires. I need them, and have been thinking of changing size. I'm currently running 205/65r15 on 15x7s and think I may go down to 195/55r15. It'll give me an inch of drop, and calculations show that it should even make my speedometer read right.

Finally the engine is back under the hood!! My girlfriend and I had some fun wrangling the engine into the bay and mating it to the trans. I definitely now know why I was told that it is easier to drop the engine in with the trans attached. Never the less, everything ended up mating up nicely. I was able to get 3 bolts into the bell housing before leaving on a vacation, so cranking the engine will have to wait another week.

Finally almost done. I have a leaky fuel injector o ring, and the starter isn't engaging. Gonna pull the starter to check it out, and pull the intake plenum to get to the fuel rail. Two steps forwards and one back.

Did you change flywheel or something out of the ordinary?

    New off brand starter?

nope, all is the same. crank turns easily by hand, so thats not the problem.

I have tomorrow morning off and hope to get more done then. My focus now is to get the fuel to stop spraying everywhere.

Engine starts, runs at a low idle, then shakes and dies.

I will try to snap a video to post

I really don't like any of the noises that the engine made here. Please anybody with engine knowledge, do you have any ideas what is going on here? The engine rattled, then squeaked before dropping idles, and shaking itself to death. I'm not sure where to go from here...

Sounds like rod knock (how do i diagnose and fix?), would that cause the motor to shake itself until it dies like it does in the video?

Could be that or your timing is way off. He is what mine sounded like when it was knocking

oh, yeah, that is a lot more thud than tin can rattle. I just haven't been able to get it running steady enough to check the timing. from where the distributor rotor was at TDC, it looked spot on.

And I am doing this all with the timing retard disabled, so it is just a basic ignition setup to get things going.

Does it sound like its up top or down low?

If it sounds like its up top could be the rockers tapping the valve cover. The 4 nuts Shouldnt be on more than hand tight

Almost sounds like the engine is starting to sieze up, you got good oil pressure? does it run when cold then as it heats up runs rough then dies? could be the engine temp sensor for the ecu has failed or has a wiring issue, on that sensor
