Soon I shall begin taking apart the old engine, and swapping some over to the new.

Teardown is going well... well, was going well. I have just tried with every ounce of effort in my body to release the bolt on the harmonic balancer to no avail. But intake, head, and exhaust manifold are all off. I spent last night quite deep into the wiring schematic world for my ignition. I have been using the F.A.S.T. I6 system from LCE, and just got the boost proportional retard controller, so that should hopefully give a little better power and fuel efficiency.

If you had it running, the old bump-the-starter thing works well. BUT you are disassembled...

disassembled. but not completely unwilling to plug the starter in for a bump. After jumping on a breaker bar for a few minutes, I wonder how much power that starter motor has tough....

It has enough to break that bolt loose.

Unless you can get an impact gun in there

Well, it is impact time. Starter wasn't strong enough to break it free. I think one of my buddies at work has an impact, so we shall see if that works.

Crazy, we were able to break my 1JZ bolt free with a cheesedick air impact, and those things are notoriously tough.

I ended up with this 4 foot steel pipe that we use at work for wrenching or going Office Space on electronic devices. That did the trick. I thought that I had just torn the block of the engine mounts by the time the bolt gave, but it gave none the less.

    take that, bolt.

Successfully pulled what was left of the old motor today. I have been taking it apart piece by piece and cleaning everything. Now while I wait for some parts I can clean the engine bay out and neaten up some of the wiring.

New motor is almost ready to be dropped in! I'm just going to wait the rain out until I actually go for it.

22r short block from LCE, ARP main studs:

Forged pistons .020 over, dual row timing chain:

DOA Racing head with custom cam grind, rebuilt injectors, and a lot of bolts replaced with acorn nuts on studs:

    And everyone's favorite..... vacuum lines!

I got my upgraded alternator yesterday, so will soon be installing that, engine mounts, and start wiring up the new ignition system.

Any reasonable power estimates? I guess about 150 with all the head work and bore.

Hell, with the studs you can probably crank up the boost eh. Get 20 psi in that bitch!

I'm not sure what power it will be pushing. Stock is 135 hp (101 kW) at 4800 rpm and 173 ft·lbf (234 N·m) at 2800 rpm. 150 would be nice. I am pushing about 9lbs of boost, I hear 10psi is when you run into fuel problems.

Truck was powerful before, any gains I will take. I am also hoping it will be a little more efficient for my road trips.

Interested in a dollar figure when you're all done. I found rebuilding my 22RE cost prohibitive which is what sent me down the swap path.
