Those are valve cover breathers. Often they're for show because they look kind of nice. If you use a weber carburetor for example you may need to use one or both because the air filter assemblies for such a carburetor do not have a way to accept a hose from the valve cover.

I wouldn't say it increases the performance, and it may cause more mess(I read). The one that replaces the pcv valve would not be smog legal in California, the other one I think would be.

If you want to use a chrome K&N air filter assembly and you have an aisin carburetor you can use this this kit which has an adapter and air cleaner assembly. I don't think it would pass California smog. I would like to try one some day, but I am not sure I would like to use valve cover breathers.

I don't recommend it wont stay on for a long time I bought one a year ago and the glue they send with it will peel with the direct sunlight. If your dash is cracked and peeled go tot my page I have detailed pictures of how I did mine then went to an upholstery shop and had it wrapped and glued.

What type of adhesive does it come with? On mine, it's held just fine and for the last 4yrs my trucks' been sitting outside in the full CA sun. Theres one or two spots I can see the adhesive, looks like E-6000/clear silicone type adhesive that the previous owner installed with.

Pretty cool you can still buy the dash foam underneath though, I did not know that was available.
