new to engine rebuild

    my truck is sadly parked right now due to the crank going out. i want to take the engine apart myself but i dont really know where to start. any advise as to where to start and what are the best books i can use to help? thanks a lot!

    I'd start with a draining the all the fluids except trans
    Disconnect all fuel rad hoses and power cables grounds wires throttle cable mark with tape and permanet marker if your unfamiliar with them then the cherry picker rent or borrow the top two transmission bolts are kinda hard to get to but not a big deal These motors are extremely easy to pull

    If u have ac remove the compressor from the block and lay it aside carful not to damage the ac lines

    A Haynes or shiltons book will be a good purchase for all types mechanical help

    thanks a lot. thats what everyone tells me, that these are the easiest engines to pull, rebuild and put back in. thanks a lot scrub88!

    Just take your time . And it will flow on the other hand the rebuild part not necessary to mention yet but that can be fairly easy as well with a clean work area and a quality torque wrench . And some plasti gauge ..

    take lots of pictures of those vacuum lines if you don't have a book on the truck!! crazy problems if you mix one up with the other! good luck!

    this book is a very good investment! it's worthevery penny it cost and will tell you anyting you need to know about the truck. i lucked out and the person i bought my truck from had already bought one and gave it to me:nana:

    By any chance do you have good pics of those vaccum lines I thought I took some good ones but it isn't helping me out
