Howdy. You can call me Criss if you want.
Me and friend went out and bought a old yard truck for $800.
    It is a 1980 Toyota pickup with a 5spd and the 20r.

It's old, It's rusted. It got thrown off the beaten path.
And he's already wanting to get rid of it cause it has 30 year old truck problems.
But I'm not gonna let them do that cause I like the truck.

Right now my big task is figuring out it's crank issue.

Welcome. For $800 I think you will be ok. There is alot of info on this site to get it running again.

Well it cranks and runs. It just has a habit of after say a hour of driving it doesn't want to crank back up.

The junkyard that owned it before us has done away with alot of wiring so I'm sure the problem lies in there. I know they rewired the headlights/running lights to two switches. And it looks like somebody else put in a manual choke. Cause there is a pull plunger on the left of the steering column that you can tell is aftermarket. But they left the factory one in as well just unhooked it for some reason.

I also gotta figure out what the hell is constantly pulling a drain on the battery. I think the culprit lies in their makeshift headlight/running light switches so I got plans on rerunning those wires to a switchpanel.

Surprisingly enough out of all the problems the truck has. A/C is not one of them it blows damn cold.

I'd snatch all that old junk out and put a 22re and 5 speed in there. Done and over less than a thousand.

    One step at a time.
Right now it has a good strong motor and a good 5spd trans also so I see no real reason to get rid of it just yet. Plus for any wiring I may have to do for the 22re swap I'd like to know I have the wiring for the truck sorted out to begin with. Don't need to be deep in a 22re swap only to find out the previous owners pulled out half the wiring I needed :D
