Hi, I'm Dave from Seattle and you'll find my posts under "Dave80pickup," a name I chose just so I'd remember it, I'm on too many forums. (Also own a Lancia Scorpion and '66 Mercedes 230SL, which is not the worst one you'll ever see, even with the twisted frame.) I've owned my '80 Toyota longbed since 1990, mostly because it just refused to quit despite lots neglect and mostly band-aid fixes. Then when it recently hit half a million miles, the clutch went, and since the engine was also on its way out, I was in a quandary. What was the point of putting in a new clutch when it really needed a new engine? So I started checking out other trucks and was reminded of what I'd forgotten. It was one of the last of the true minis and one of the last of the small "long beds" that actually had a long bed, seven whole feet. Since then the cabs have grown and the beds have shrunk. Also, it's an SR5 with bucket seats, extra instruments, and working air conditioning, and these weren't really as common as you'd think. And in spite of all the neglect, I'd somehow kept it mostly straight and rust free and the result was that a truck that had looked old for its age when I bought it was now one of the better-looking ones around. So I bought the only used 20R to be had (or at least advertised) in the Pacific Northwest and had a friend do the swap. (I'm getting to old for that.) So now it's ready for the next half million miles--apart from a few loose ends post-swap, which you'll now get to read about in the forums.
