Just got a free truck... 1988 2wd xtra cab 22r carb. Needed body work and lower control arm. Having problems getting it smogged due to check engine light not coming on when key is turned to the ON position. Not sure if it is suppose to or not but the wiring diagram only shows a circuit for the check engine light for EFI models only. Anyways, I'm glad to be a new member to this site and look forward to any feedback for this issue. Thanks.

 

Welcome! I know emissions are tough if you live in certain areas. That is one reason I went with such an old truck in the first place to get around it, plus they look cool. I would think that you could pass the test just by having a catalytic converter in good shape, but I am not sure of what all they test now days to get past emissions. If you have an o2 sensor, you could try testing it or replacing it. Good luck!

 

It should come on when u turn the key to the ON position. Something is wrong with the circuit somewhere. Idk how it functions but trace down what you can
