    Hey guys.

Do you have the 3RZ motor in the USA? I know you have the 2RZ and they are similar.

I have a few questions for the conversion I plan on for my 82 Pickup.

I take it the more complete the motor the better, such as loom and computer.

Could the speedo/cluster match up to the later model gear box with an electronic speedo?

Is it possible to hook up powersteer with a later model 89-95 powersteer box?

Any other hassles that I should know of? Or links to similar threads on this forum

    Thanks in advance

We have the 2rz and 3rz.

I don't know if any of the guys on here have done that swap, but I know the 4x4 guys over on the marlincrawler forum have.

I think I'm missing something. I'm not familiar with the 3rz and don't want to badmouth it or a swap without learning more, but I clicked on the above Knowledge thread and it looks like these guys are doing an entire engine swap to go from 50 to 100 horsepower and comparable torque on the dyno. That doesn't seem like a whole lot of gain for the amount of work involved. couldn't you turbo the stock engine for roughly the same gain or do a small block v8 swap for double that power?
Like I said, I'm not trying to badmouth this, but to understand the pros and cons of this swap compared to the v8 swap. Especially since I'm planning and collecting parts for a v8 swap and want to make sure the 3rz isn't a better idea than what I have planned.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread, but I thought it could be explained and help other readers out to get the Cliff Notes version of the swaps.

A v8 swap is nice, but (afaik) weighs more, which can be a problem in an already nose-heavy truck. the 3rz swap is basically getting 2 more valves per cylinder, with modern technology, without the weight gain.

but, if you're going for drift missile or hauler, go big. Personally, I find the 3sge more appealing for a four banger, but like all swaps, everyone has their preference.

Something has to be said for the bulletproof stock 22r, though. It'll last forever, but it's as gutless as a fishstick.

    What troll said...

The 2/3rz is the modern 22r.
Super reliable, better gas mileage, latest technology and more power with little difference in weight.

Swapping engines in California means it has to stay stock, so dropping a stock heavy v8 in a toyota isn't always appealing.

Ok, I get it. Thanks. I understand the cons of the v8 swap. I'm struggling with the idea of swapping out a motor and trans thats legendary for reliability (22r and 5speed) for one that isn't so much so (American v8's and T-5 trans) for the trade off in power and torque. Thanks for the info.

Don't get me wrong. American v8's are reliable.... I just think they are inefficient without upgrades, lol.

Old reliable technology like the 22r.

3sge/gte, 2jz or 1uz. Keep it in the family.
