    First question......
What is the sole purpose of the intake silencer? And can it be removed?
Ok for a stock motor my motor runs fine. I would just like a little more low end power. It reminds me of a two stroke when it hits its power band. What kind of bolt ons can I get without pulling the motor for shop work?

Always the first things to change to get more power/performance:

    Headers & bigger exhaust tubing
    Better air cleaner( K&N)

These will give you better air flow in & out of your engine!

Next would be a cam, which is the heart of your engine.
    Than better spark= a better coil,plugs & wires.

These are the very first things on that path!!

Sounds like the biggest performance gain will come from either registering the truck in a non emission county or moving to one.

Ha ha that is true....damn emissions. I've already got a K&N air filter and I've redone all of my exhaust besides a header. All of the rest is on my list.

I usually makes high voltage coil and better spark plugs/wires one of my first mods. Makes it run better stock, and as you increase airflow and fuel levels its needed. Make sure you burn what's there before you add more, get it?

If you want low-end power "feel" you could always re-gear the rear end. You could make it pull tree stumps with the right gearing. Of course, the downside of the re-gear idea is driving down the highway at 5000 rpm's.
