I am replacing my water pump and have a question. It had permatex gasket sealer on the old gasket. I have never put sealer on water pump gaskets of any of my old Mustangs! I am wondering if this is something I need to do. I wouldn't think I need it but it never hurts to ask since this is my first Yota water pump.

I usually put just a light smear on the water pump side in a few places to hold the gasket in place while I start the bolts. No more is needed since you're assembling two machined surfaces together.

Thanks, I didn't think I needed to use permatex but better to be safe than sorry. I can slide the gasket on the studs that are sticking out so it will stay in place. However, thanks for your reply.
