So, I've changed the water pump, radiator cap, fan clutch, flushed the system and installed a OEM thermostat from Toyota and still getting hot in traffic and up hills! Help please!!!

87 Toyota 2wd with a 22r carbureted automatic with A/C (currently not working) and 295k but believe the engine has been rebuilt.

Also, almost 100% sure it's not a head gasket.... No milky oil and still has plenty power going uphill with a motorcycle in the back, if that even matters.

    Thanks guys and gals!!
    Ronnie

How's the radiator itself? Is it original? The brass ones get clogged up and don't flow as well as when they were new. Flushing doesn't get it all. You could try having it boiled at a radiator shop, or swap to an all aluminum direct replacement. eBay has them. I have a 78 and run a 90s style and its held great. Never had bad luck with eBay rads. Hope this helps.

x2 on the radiator clogged up. sometimes trying to flush the system only makes it worse as it ages...

Copy that! Should i get a one or two core? Whats the stock? Should I order an aluminium one or will a simple stock replacement from autozone work?

    Thanks!!

A simple replacement one will work. I personally stay clear of the newer plastic tanked models, but they do work.

Replacements radiators will do fine .. While you have you radiator out and fluid drained stick a water hose low pressure or nothin crazy in your heater core inlets and outlets switch around flush any gunk out .. Can also stick it in the block thermostats removed and flush around any potential gunk in there

Would you guys do the Autozone Radiator or go with the cheaper eBay one? Just looking for the best but also for the best price!

    Thanks!

I think you'll be alright with a autozone radiator . I mean at least it's local and you'll get some kind of warranty and receipt with it ... I normally skip the zone parts if there engine related or internal . But see no reason there radiators would be much different from any other lower costing radiator if all else fails . It has a warranty

i wont ever get auto zone radiators again. they are junk. yes they have a warranty, but replacing radiators should not be on my list of regularly replaced items.

average life of these radiators is around 2 years and then they leak under the inlet or outlet areas around the tanks since its an area they cannot crimp down on. had one last 6 months worst case.

Looks like I'm going to go with the bottom one...... Affordable and has a warranty! What do you all think?

Had my mechanic go thru the cooling system and he said it all checked out..... So I'm assuming it must be the radiator!

When I researched aluminum radiators I found that most are epoxied & not welded!!

Why I went with the Griffin!! Though they do use epoxy over the welds!!

You might consider purchasing a product that will last or easily returnable in case of a unfortunate quality defect in wich most Mexico and Chiwanease parts tend to be either via parts store or the dark unknown of the Internet . Or search the web for a quality reputable radiator . May cost more but may last a lot longer and overall better fit and finish
