Okay so far ive had this truck on the road before as an offroad truck but i want to make it a street truck for now until i save up and rip this thing apart again to go balls out but thats far from now. So right now its sitting on 235/75/15 tires on either stock or 2" lift. I want to drop it a decent amount i was thinking about doing a ball joint and/or getting lowering coils and getting drop blocks for rear. But i want good performance no juttering of the rear end or chopped anything so it rides horrible i want it to perform like a track car pretty much. I have fabricating skills so any draw ups or ideas ill take. Wheels- I was thinking 18" something with an offset (Ideas?) Tires-Sticky Z rated falkens or something Suspension- Drop like 2-4" tops front and rear (what coils/leafs) Paint - Semi Gloss Black w/ Gloss black rims Motor - 18r jap model my dad had laying around forever i did a full rebuild now is running headers weber carbs w/ cannon intake, head is ported, bored, Painted neon green w/ black , MSD 6 Plus ignition box, MSD Blaster 2 Coil, 8mm plug wires, Fuel- Keg as gas tank mounted in bed, holley electronic fuel pump, mallory regulator, stainless steel braided lines Brakes - Stock drums front and rear (want to go disc help!) Rearend - Stock pre 8/74 (what gearing is that and what can i swap to for a better gearing? like high 3s or 4) Thank you!
Well I see a good basic plan there. Little refinement and you're set. First, I wouldnt bother with less than. 4-5" drop. Rear end takes a 3" block with 1 pulled leaf very nicely. I have 4.5" block with pulled leaf. Up front mighty max drop coils work, but the spring rate is very similar to cutting the stock coils. Both ride nicely up front. Stock rear shocks and 68 camaro V8 front shocks. 18s are pretty big for these trucks. 17s work alot better. I've run lots of rims and to tuck a 7.5" wide rim needs +35-45mm offset. A little less can fit if you roll the fenders. The inner fenders will need a hammer beating to clear the tire tread. There's a few bolt heads and a lunch weld to flatten. For your brakes, any 75-83 spindle will bolt onto your arms. But you HAVE to change the master cylinder to match. And add the rear proptioning valve. Your master is setup to feed 4 drums, not 2 drums and 2 discs. That should cover it for ya.
Go through my build thread and take note of my suspension mods. They are amazing frames to lower stuff on. Biggest drawback is the higher than later Toyota offset requirement to fit the narrow body. With some fender flares a wider set could be run but that's a whole other convo lol
Thanks man helped alot and i like your truck. I have a red 1977. Turning that thing into my rat rod truck. But would getting a mighty max coil with a better spring rate just fix that? my friends mom has an OG mighty max all original and she has performace coils she doesnt want anymore because it gave her camber and she didnt want to adjust it... so free coils! ill stop by now and grab them thank you! And the whole disc brake thing....AWESOME there are so many of those year yotas at the junk yards where im at now when i hit the break. SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN hahaha
Sounds good. You can always trim one pair and keep the other pair of springs for a different height. I have 5" mighty max drop coils which sit within a half inch of my cut stocks. I took 3-1/8 turns off the stock coils. Ride is about the same, hilux might be a hair stiffer.
