hey guys. i have had my new wheels on since wednesday, and i thought i would be ok with my truck getting raised back up a couple inches, but im getting the need to go back down already. i have read a few different posts about the front leaf hanger mod. one drilled hole directly above original, the other said he drilled 1 1/2" up and .5" back. which one should i do? and i was looking at the rear leaf hanger and was thinking, couldnt i relocate the top shackle mount up to the frame? the way it is now is, there is a bracket about 1/2" wider than the frame that shackle mounts to. im thinking i could eliminate that bracket completely and drill new hole in the frame and weld small tube in it. looks like i could move it up almost 4 inches. maybe 4 1/2 -ish. thoughts?
Funny I was just talking about this a few minutes ago. Yes you can put the shackle tube up in the frame easily.
I think the main goal of the front hanger is to be able to cut off what hangs below the frame. I'm thinking about doing the same thing on mine.
With raising the rear shackle hanger you have to remember that you will be turning the pinion down making the pinion angle worse.... On another note you can do a combo where you French te front spring hanger into the frame. Frenched Toyota Leaf Spring Hangers (Also remember when adjusting one side of a leaf spring if like your considering raise the shackle 4", your effectively only lowering 2") Helped a buddy French the front hangers for his crawler and they are nice! Tucks right up!
I thought about doing something like that too. But with round tube. Cut inside the stock one and shove the eye up in there a bit. But that's also because I wanna use it as my lower link bar mount so whatever it takes to not drag the bar lol.
I'm bouncing between cutting out the spring mounts and raising them about 4" and cutting up into the rear of the frame to install sliders instead of shackles. Or the other option is to build a set of truck arms and be done with the leafs all together. Decisions decisions...
i like the way truck arm chevys ride thinking of trying it on the yota before I go all out with a 3or4 link
So a 2 link basically? No pivot at the axle side, just bolted solid? That works fine for short travel setups like coils. Not so great with bags/hydros.
Toyota Privia minivans are RWD and 4 linked factory. The lower bars are massive but just the right length if you move the hanger bolt forward about an inch. Up a little as well. And (3) 90-95 4runner lower link bars can be made into an upper wishbone link. Gas tank can stay. No lower bracket to build. Just have one tab on a crossmember between the bed mounts and you're set. Moving the shocks to the backside of the axle on their crossmember will allow use of the Privia shock mount. It sticks off the back after the link eye. For a post style, angled inward for normal rear shock angle. A coilover could mount to that and make things simple and clean. I have (2) 4runner bars and a pair of Privia lowers. That's my plan lol, just need another 4runner bar. I can take pics of the bars if you're curious. Would ride really nice I bet. Long bars and short movement is usually the formula. Also they have a nice high angle pivot bushing on both ends of the Privia bars. The 4runners are standard solid rubber with a tube sleeve. Those can also be replaced with Heims if desired. I figure if those heavy things can use them a light truck should be much lighter duty.
Yes 2 links solid mounted at the axle. Limited articulation travel which is fine for what I plan to do which is haul ass and turn. There is zero 3 wheel motion antics in my future unless they are due to torque twist as I launch at the drag strip.
