In light of the "poor man's" drop thread...

Assuming you had the budget to do the best static dropped truck you could, what components and techniques would you use?

Let's say for arguments sake our goal is

    1. Either 4/6 or 5/7
    2. Ride Quality focus = Smoooth ride, good to great handling
    3. Static (helper bags or air shocks allowed)
    4. Bolt-on or mid level fabrication BUT currently available to the market
    5. Whatever else I'm forgetting to get my point across

Drop control arms, reindexed torsions or aftermarket bars, swayaway away bars, drop leafs and a small lowering block, notch, good shocks. Seems to be the good setup.

If DJM sells a complete kit, how do you get the extra drop?

I forgot about drop spindles. Coil overs help. Out back, truely a 4 link would make things great. But that can get spendy quick without a welder and fab skills. I've heard lots of good things about drop leafs. Or having a spring shop make a set for whatever curve (none lol) and dimensions and payload you want.

LOL. You guys aren't thinking "rich" enough.

Rear sub frame from C6 Corvette with rear transaxle and C-notch frame with proper bracing to stiffen frame up in torsion?

Turbo 300ZX IRS with HICAS rear steering and the C-notch?

Mid-engine conversion with FWD powertrain from first gen SHO Taurus (Yamaha DOHC V6 and manual transaxle!)

Me? I'm not rich so 2" blocks and drop spindles will probably be as far as I go. Although the thought of converting to rear four link intrigues me... :D

Yeah I think a 4 link is all the back would need. Can be adapted with rear springs in air, hydro, coilover or normal coils. Lots of options. Leaf springs have worked for this long on mini trucks for a reason. It works lol. Refine with drop leafs and smaller blocks and that's about the best. For my money, I'd go 4 link. Up front is where you'll spend the most money anyways.

Still for sale, complete DJM 3"/4" drop kit. Rear blocks, U bolts and hardware not shown. $175 plus shipping. Retails for about $250. Nothing wrong with it, I'm bagging my truck know.

Drop spindles, djm lca's, swayaway bars, 1 ton sway bar and some nice bilstien/kyb etc shocks. Out back a set of fabricated truck arms with a watts link suspended by some surplus coil overs from a roundy round race team.

Reasonably priced with a grest ride and fanfawkingtastic handling.

You guys keep talking about sway bars makes me want to rob a late model truck for a rear. And that might inspire me to stick my front sway bar back on. 78 and back frames are a bit different up front. We get coil springs.:D

With a bit of work a Jeep yj sway bar will work up front and a 91+ 4runner rear bar should work on the rear. I know itll work on 79+ trucks but pre 79 has about 3" narrower frame rail spacing than later trucks so the bar may not work.

Yeah, the first two are probably over the top...

But, in the 80s there were a couple Datsun 620 pickups with mid-engine conversions. I believe they all used Toronado or El Dorado drive trains, GM's first FWD cars. But those were auto trannies and that was before the proliferation of FWD cars.

I'd like to see someone do a modern FWD powertrain, high HP, M/T mid-engine truck. The only high HP, FWD carwith an M/T I can think of is the first gen SHO Taurus, though. Plus, Toyota and Yamaha have ties that go back decades.:D

Most M/T cars are restricted to smaller engines... :(

Or, maybe an NSX or Ferrari drivetrain??? Nah, that would again be over the top...

Why not over the TOP! Someone here needs to do it! I can't cuz I'm not a Gazillionare but I'm sure someone here has some money to play with LOL! Who's up for the task? I'm sure the only thing on or in the truck that would be TOYOTA would be the body and steering wheel. Someone build a Super truck!! And I'm not meaning a Supra engine, just a truck that blows everyone's minds.
