So I have had this little idea, and was wondering if anyone has ever seen anything similar done... Essentially a giant engine stuffed into a tiny truck... I wanna put a Cummins 6bt in my 76 Hilux. I know its overkill. Its sposed to be. I may go the way of a 4bt just because its a lot better in terms of size and weight. Anyone ever done a swap of this magnitude in a 72- 78 ?
You wanna stuff a 1200 pound motor into a 1/2 ton truck ..I'm down with that id go the 4bt is a power house and easy to work on ..that would be we're I'd start the 6 liter is just a bull of a motor and would break apart a Toyota truck 6b's snaps charter bus frames like toothpicks Side note the 6b requires 3.1/2 foot deep engine bay And is roughly 45 inches long .by 34 inches with turbo and intake/exhaust hooked up
hahaha I want it to be over the top... Thats the whole idea behind it. I could do a TDI swap, ive read up on em a bit. Just not in my gameplan. Hell, theres a diesel 81 golf sittin in my driveway, which is what stemmed this whole idea. haha. I think that maybe the 4bt is the way to go, but this is also an issue of shock factor. It aint gotta be practical... and I know a 6bt is really pushing it, but the whole reason I bought this truck is to make it raw and nasty. ( reAD scary, I think about 800 lbs/feet of torque in a 2wd toyota should be pretty scary). If I get the police called on me everytime I start her up, my goal will be achieved. Smoke, sparks, dragging, and moving violation tickets... bring it on.
do it i was thinking the same thing awhile back and punked out do a little stack and roll coal all over the cars behind you............love it
Well 4bt are every were anything from bred trucks to small passenger step vans it's been in service for some time now . Is highly upgradable tons of aftermarket ..just swapping the to the 6bt holset turbo nets you 100+ hp gain and gobs of torque with a boost increase .....and the super 10 speed bolts up to it and is a small trans ...and of course a drive shaft and rear end upgrade
#1 issue I see is lack of traction. A diesel is a torque monster. These trucks are already nose heavy and have a hard time moving. The idea is great. I'm just not sure about using such a physically large motor. Then again out Dakota has a 440 set back thru the firewalll
I'm sure you could make some 16" wide tires fit back there.. Throw in a couple sand bags and you should be fine!
Where do you live? A guy put a 6bt in a runner an got his registration revoked because it was a heavy duty engine in a light duty vehicle or something on those lines an he lived in Nevada. Even the 4bt is questionable because it was never offered in a vehicle.
Both the 6bt and 4bt are classified as clean burn diesels part of the requirements to meet for production vehicles commercial or private . Unless there are some weird laws about swaps he should be good to go The 4bt would be the only one I'd would try to stuff in there You should be able to fined one in a commercial truck graveyard or scrap yard
6bt engines came in 89+ dodge pickups. Shouldn't be any duty difference on that. I plan the same swap into my ram charger someday.
Yea the first road production disesl light duty trucks were the 6bt Although depending on your cash flow... case corp industries used this engine in the early 80s and current in heavy haulers and construction dozers backhoes ..that's we're you'll find one cheap There's proably 25 + 6bts and ib and 4bt at my work even some hino/Toyota diesels just sitting in a warehouse .some blown some good to go ..most will be melted down tho sucks there taged and coded for death or dismantle
You could find a running driving 89-93 dodge diesel for like 1200 with a beat body. Then you'd have all the parts you need.
Chassis twist here we come! In Aus our tyre widths can only be 30% more than original. not sure if you guys have that same problem. It's certainly will be a problem for me!
If I was going for crazy unique or unusual swaps ..I would go for a built up bridge ported 13b rx7 motor with crazy carbs hole setup size of a watermelon .and nuttin sounds like a pissed off rotory motor This I could do all day long. Flames ervrewureee http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8AZF8deBqmQ
I would just like to add, my dad has a 6bt in a 72 suburban, and he hd to cut 8 inches into the firewall. You are really going to have to get creative with the dash, and everything. my truck is dropeed about 4 inches, and the cummins was resting on the oil pan on the ground next to it and was taller then the hood..
