Hey guys I recently did a 22r Rebuild and now that everything is in place there is no fuel traveling into my carburetor. The carburetor is the original Aisin rebuilt and the Mechanical fuel pump is new. Any ideas on what my problem is? Thanks
Are you getting fuel thru the line going to the carb?Check that first. If you are the the float bowl is probably getting stuck.Maybe when you rebuilt is sat for a while dried up and got stuck. You gotta open up that window and finger it loose or try tapping on the carb with a hammer right on top of the FB.Just remember with the mech. pump you gotta crank over to get fuel not just key on.(sorry if that was like stupidly obvious but just making sure)
Ok so it's not the carb then.Start at the new fuel pump.Pull the pick up line going into the tank and have somebody crank and you should be getting suction from the fuel pump.
i usually pour a little gas down the carb to get the motor running and that will make it prime the lines and get fuel. but i'm not sure if thats a good idea for 1st start on a rebuild. i've also pressurized my fuel tank with compressed air to help push fuel through the fuel system.
If it has set for a Long time or the fuel system has drained creates a cavitation in the system the stock pump has trouble pulling from that far with empty return lines . Back pressure affect had this same problem while I did my motor . I used starter fluid and let it run on that for about a minute until the pump finally created a syphon effect The air trick works to
You sprayed starter fluid down the barrel of the carb and it didn't crank . At all that bypasses the carburetor . It should of fired off u have spark right ? Stick a air nozzle on the end of the return line and blow air or stick it n the fuel neck and wrap a rag around it help seal .. I've done that a few times on older vw
Dude try pouring straight up gas into the carb.not too much like 2 or 3 cap fulls. But like scrub88 says make sure you got spark first.
It stays on as long as it has starter fluid but as soon as it burns that it shuts off i think the fuel lines are sucking in air im going to try and replace those today Thanks for the help
O okay I got ya a simple test to check fuel line condition . Small bucket and some fuel line of the same size as stock and run them from the bucket to the pump hooked up just like it would be from the factory You'll be able to see it pumping and returning fuel .. This will rule out everything but the tank and oem lines . Before u go under and start pulling lines and replacing .
