what's an easy way to remove the pilot bushing when i replace my clutch? i know i can rent a tool, probably, but, is there an old shade tree trick i don't know about?
theres stuffing it with wet toilet paper and wacking it with an extenstion but tried twice for me never did work or budge. i saved alot more time and mess. i just borrowing my friends tool.
A grease gun will work. Just pump the grease through the hole so that It fills the area behind the bearing, and it will push it out. A little messy But it works well.
Keep stuffing it with wet newspaper pieces and wack them in with something of a slightly smaller diameter than the bearing's inner race. It always works for me, just be patient. Good luck
The grease will work. But you don't just pump it in there and expect it to just magically work out. These principles work on hydraulic pressure. So I'd do the grease gun option. Use a metal rod just barely smaller than the pilot bearing size and using a hammer, a 1lb sledge works. And hit it. Introducing this into the grease, which is already packed good(or should be if you used enough) leaves no where for that grease to go but out. Forcing the bearing out. May take a few tries. But it works.
my dad has told me how to do it this way a few times, i was just seeing if there was maybe a cleaner way. my instructor at school gave me an idea but i'm probably still gonna go rent the tool. thanks everyone.
Using the right tool is always easiest. I've done the wet paper trick...it works but it takes a while. You have to stuff about 2 full pages of newspaper or 3-4 paper towels in there. It's amazing how much paper it takes to build the necessary pressure.
