i have always planned on putting a 327 chevy in the yota but now i'm looking for a 7m-gte. i think it would be better since it already has the supra rearend. what do you all think? i gunna have a few questions since i know nothing about engine wiring.
1UZFE! They are inexpensive to buy and everything has been figured out with them. Once it is in and running if you get bored with its power you can get a bolt up supercharger for it. I am putting it in one vehicle now and am looking for a 1st gen 4runner for the next one. Jake
Id go with the Supra engine, but go with the non-turbo cause they are much easier to find & cheaper lol! Then you can go with an aftermarket turbo kit & it will still be a beast.
3rz is a sweet swap too or a 1uzfe (decent swap minus the tranny stuff if you want to run a manual) or a 7mgte (bolts in, lots of aftermarket support, mandatory rebuild before install) or a 3sgte (hardest) just keep it yota
hey 93, you seem to know what your talkin about most the time, the 7m swap how hard is it ? whats the parts that need rebuilt in them just head gasket ? maybe sound vision soul can answer me better but im still interested in a supra swap...
I hear 7m's are horrible on head gaskets. If you wanted to be bold you could swap in an sr20. i've seen a few of those.
man screw that..if ur going that far get a rb20 or even an rb26..but dont do the sr20..if u actually look at the cost to build one up the rb20 will be the better buy..
Okie so here is what i think. 7MGTE swap is easy. Yes they are bad on head gaskets but if you have it out of the car (obviously) all you need to do is a HKS metal headgasket and a ARP stud kit. Youll never have to do a headgasket again. Unless you crank like 24+ pounds of boost.... so with that out of the way on to wiring. Visit Supracharged.com for wiring. I used it and when i was all done the wiring it started first time. And has also run great ever since. My only suggestion is to get a North american engine with wiring harness and ECU. I got a JDM one (with harness and ECU for 1300 shipped to my door mind you) and my only complant is that because it came out of a Right Hand Drive car the computer had to be mounted under the hood for now cause the harness wasn't long enough to reach the stock computer location...... All in all its cheap, easy and they are a reliable engine with HUGE power potential... but yes a 1J or a 2JZ would be a bigger shock factor. Thats my 2 cents. Any other questions just ask!
If you were gonna Turbo the 7MGE its actually cheaper to just buy the GTE outright. Its only like a extra 3 or 400 dollars to get. Versus spending over 1000 to turbo a non turbo engine. Just a thought.
well..... (this is probably old news to joe -toy boy-), the junkyard i go to sells complete engines for $69.99 plus a $25 core charge no matter what vehicle it comes out of. there is usually 7m-gte supras with almost complete motors (turbo is usually gone). and the trannies are $39.99 plus a core charge. they are all guaranteed to run. i have pulled several chevy 350's and just throw the wiring harness and computer on top of the engine, and they don't charge for it. i figure if i can get the motor and tranny for $150ish i can afford to put the turbo on it. plus using the 7m-gte motor and tranny it will be a bolt on affair to the i.r.s., all i will need is a shortened drive shaft. i would love a 1or 2jz but i have yet to see one in the junkyard, and can't afford one of the jdm motors.
some guy had a red extra cab rb26 for sale.... it was bagged and body dropped into a yota... it was NASTTYY he wanted 6500 I think he kept the motor, went to stock and sold the truck
i was expecting you to say that its a pretty sweet deal, they mainly recycle the cars so when they sell parts they are super cheap, oh and the prices are on half of days (Wednesday)
Your friggin kidding me right! That is unbelieveable..... not fair either. Well if thats the case i have lots of spare CT26 turbo's laying around!
so svs pretty much got it on the 7mgte I would add that it's a good time to do a complete rebuild because more than likely the original hg failed at some point and caused some wear on the engine. Also most 7mgte's have 100k+ miles on them at this point and those have likely been hard miles. The 7mgte has huge potential and honestly is the way to go for toyota inline 6's the 2jz is cool but is kind of a dyno queen engine, the torque and hp curve is not that "useable". The 1jz is a good middle ground between the 2 but is a jdm engine so it can be harder to find some parts for and also can never be smog legal. A 7mgte is by far the easiest swap since it bolts in, wiring diagrams are available etc. don't waste your time on a 7mge when a 7mgte is just about the same amount of work to swap and has way more potential. A 7mge is a good option for 4wd guys but for 2wd's you gotta go turbo! As for nissan engines in a yota shame on you all!!! Oh and an sr20 has a ton of potential, is light weight, gets awesome gas mileage, and is cheaper when compared to nissan straight sixes. An SR also keeps the weight more centralized and is easier to work on. The RB motors are cool but imho pretty useless for swaps compared to the SR. A yota pickup with an sr20 would be about perfect but I just can't get myself to put a nissan engine in a yota. A 3rz with a turbo kit will do about the same as an sr20 anyways if not better.
