Ive read a few other fourms of people droping a lt1 in there four by four toyotas. Has anyone on here ever done a two wheel drive lt1 swap?

It's really the same as a sbc swap.

Personally I'd do a 5.0 ford because it fits better than a chevy

    Hahaha!

I can build two 350's for the price of one of your 5.0's.......and each of them would make the same or more power, reliably.

Anything can be made fast. If you know the right people or places to get parts, cheap too. There's plenty of space for either.

Stock for stock I'd go for the LT1 as well. There are of course a few downsides to the engine, or at least design quirks that don't stand up to abuse/neglect but overall not a bad engine. I've driven a 94 firebird with the LT1 and 94 mustang with a 5.0 (both with exhaust and an air filter) and there's no comparison.

I own a lt1 f body I'd prefer the lt1 anyday over the lazy 5.0 ford the lt1s opti spark dizzy eliminates the clearance issue that the 350 small blocks have against the firewall other than that the lt1 can handle abuse so long as you don't over rev it and keep it cooled nicely .

There's a reason why all the high end customs are using Lt1's and not ford. Sh!t, even the Ford hot rod guys are using small block Chevy motors. Unless you are building a v8 Pinto or Courier, stay away from ford swaps.

You must mean ls1 based. Few people hotrod lt1's. they are a transition design and did not stay in production for long for a reason.

Comparing a ws6 lt1 to a gr mustang is not a fair comparison.

The most even, motor for motor, and car for car comparison is a s351 Saleen. Like a 95-97.

I'm afraid it won't even be a race to a for the 351 inch Saleen.

But my point about the ford fitting better should be considered. I've dropped a 302 short block in my truck (an 82) and it was going to be tight. A 77 would need a shoehorn.

He means there's very little room major squeeze I didn't realize that your trying to do this to a 77 model . Have you considered a gm 4.3 vortec v6 it's a stout motor and a very available smaller and can use Toyota trans with adapters or most of the gm auto transmissions a though if there's not enough room
